I have not had experience with any other chips than the Western Diesel chip I have. I will just tell you my reasons for choosing the Western Diesel chip:
- I don't tow much, but when I do, i want the vehicle to perform well through the towing range, not in the highend like some chips are programmed for. The Western Diesel chip achieves this.
- They claim safe EGT's. I don't want to be concerned about my exhaust temps, because I don't have gauges installed at this time. When I tow, then I am a little more conservative, but modifications to the exhaust were not required in order to safely use this chip. I plan on installing gauges at a later date, however.
- Other members were pleased with it, I had not read a single complaint about the product or the company that wasn't resolved. Good customer service is important to me.
- I like the fact that they are a diesel specialist company and develop products for diesels. They know how diesels are supposed to run, whereas some of the other companies' main focus are gas engines. It's kind of like a company offering technical support for all kinds of computers and you call up with a specific question about your PC. Well, if the person on the other end is a whiz on a Macintosh, what good does their basic knowledge do you if they cannot help you with your PC problem. There are certain things that are picked up with experience, and when all of your focus is on a certain type of engine, ultimately you just know a lot more about it than someone or some company applying general concepts to a platform that is not their main focus.
I have had the chip in for about 14,000 miles now without a problem. I have loved it since the day I installed it. It provides a substantial improvement in performance over the PSD's stock form.
