Cigarette Lighter Adapter In Garage Door Opener Holder

Hi, all-

I would like to install a cigarette lighter adapter in my garage door opener holder in the overhead console.

It seems like this should be easy to do. Since the overhead lights turn on up there, there must be a hot wire running up there.

Has anyone else done this or know which wires I should tap into?

Re: Cigarette Lighter Adapter In Garage Door Opener Holder

I haven't done it, but I'd make sure that the wires you tap into are heavy enough to handle the current you intend to pull through them. I think that some devices pull 15 amps or more through one of those plugs.

Regards,
Dave

Re: Cigarette Lighter Adapter In Garage Door Opener Holder

I installed a old style 1/4" Phone jack near the front of the overhead for the Radar Detector, comes on with the ignition it was not a heavy circuit. I think it was in the harness with the Trip computer but not one to the wires that went to it.
Can't remember what it was for, May have been the manual "map Light Circuit" but it was easy to find right up front. I do not think there are any circuits up there over 10 amps if that.
