Cladding

Please bear with me, fellow Excursion owners. I've removed all the cladding from my LTD, and there are 4 holes on the rear quarter panel--behind the rear wheel, and in front of the rear bumper. On an XLT, there is apparantly a piece of trim called a "stone guard." Here's where it gets confusing. If I'm correct, there are some XLT's with no cladding at all, and some with cladding on the doors only. The stone guard that my nephew ordered, to cover those holes, comes way up the side of the truck, to match (I suspect) the height of the cladding on those XLT's that have it. I suspect there is another stone guard that is shorter. I've seen it on Expeditions, some Superduty's, etc. The dealer cannot identify it. The computer shows 2 trim pieces, with the same part number, except the suffix is BAA, or AAA. Could any of you XLT owners please describe the trim piece that you have behind the rear wheel well, at the bottom of the side, and perhaps even measure to tell me how far up the side it comes???
Thanks for this pain-in-the-a** favor.

Re: Cladding

It's a little hard to measure, since it wraps under the body. If I clip a tape measure on the inside edge and run it up to the top of the strip, it measures approximately 4" at the back by the bumper, about 6.5" just before it turns to go up the wheel well, and about 11" at its highest at the wheel well.

If I just hold the tape measure out in midair and try to eyeball the length from bottom to top at the wheel well, it's about 9". (The extra 2" is the distance it wraps under.)

Hope that helps. Oh wait, I can go take a picture of it so you can see what I'm talking about...

There, that should help!

Re: Cladding

Thanks, Frobozz----ain't technology wonderful. Once again, a picture is worth a thousand words. I can't wait to show this to the parts dept at Performance Ford, here in Nashville, TN. The piece they showed me, as well as the one that my nephew got for his Excursion, goes straight from front to back, at the highest point that your piece runs----so it's about 11" high at every point, which would look really bogus on a truck without cladding on the doors.

Thanks for your help---this website is the greatest!!!!!!
