Recently took the Ex on a lightly loaded trip on the PA Turnpike. This road has the automatic ticket dispensers at each entrance toll booth. At each booth the Ex registered as a Class 2 vehicle (class one being the lowest). Anyone else run into this? My '00 F250SD CC w/ PSD never did this. I gotta weigh this thing sometime.

Huh??? I travel on the PA turnpike all my life - just take the ticket. I GUESS the toll collecter could hike your toll at the other end for your GVW, but it has never happened to me, either in my F350, or my Ram 2500.
Now, once, coming across the Walt Whitman from Jersey back into Philly, the Del Riv Port Auth toll collecter jacked my toll, but it only ever happened once.
Last November taking the PA Turnpike and got hit with the class 2. Prior trips I had not. Tollboth attendant told me the vehicle gets weighed automatically when you get your ticket and if it exceeds 7000 lbs i think then you move to the next class. I had just filled the tank and had alot of stuff in the ex. On the way back I did I was alot lighter and didn't fill the tank. It's only afew bucks difference.
Well, this is interesting. Maybe only some exits have the scales?
Last weekend, I entered the turnpike at Mid County (Norristown), and took the NE Extension to Allentown. Toll was the same as a car, $1.45, I think. Two other PSDs with me - no problems either.
Yea ain't that a trip... I use the turnpike quite often and my suburban goes as a class 1 (barely) but the Excur is always a class 2. I guess it sits on the break point as I have had it fully loaded and is still a class 2. So it was not a mistake.
Whenever I am back home in Pa I stay away from the automatic ticket dispenser. It always gives me a class 2 ticket but the toll booth attendents just charge class 1 for the X. This is on the toll road from New Stanton to Delmont around Greensburg.

Probably the weight that's putting you over. Remember, an unloaded 2 wheel drive Ex is going to easilly tip the scales at well over 7500#, a 4 wheel drive is several hundred pounds heavier, quite a bit heavier than your F250 CC weighed.
Mine, unloaded with a full tank weighed 7600# without me in it!

This happened to me on the PA, OH, and IN turnpikes. It is right on the edge, even when not loaded with stuff. Try not to hit the scale treadle hard on the entry tollbooth. If you have a chance to use a manual lane, do so, because none of the attendants think an Excursion is class 2 (I've had some tell me the cost at the exit booths and then do a double take when the computer reads the ticket and tells them the higher class 2 amount!)
It's the opposite when you're driving a SRW pickup: when you pull up to the booth with a diesel engine, they immediately assume you are a higher rate and do what my wife and I call "the dually glance" towards the back of the truck before deciding what to charge you.

I have been on the PA pike numerous times and Gov. Ed Rendell always charge me class 2. It has happened at mid county, Allentown, Rte 1 etc. I guess the persons with the GMC imitation Excursion is really not considered a truck or they would be paying class 2 also. Let us face it if you want a car buy one. If you want an Truck that seats 8 buy an Excursion .

Well, it's purely based on weight, not how worthy your vehicle is. Though in this case, of course ('burb vs Excursion), it ends up being the same thing, hee hee...
I would add "If you want a truck that seats *9*, buy an Excursion XLT!"
We always get the front bench ('89 Suburban, '97 CC, '00 X, '03 CC), that seat comes in handy sometimes.
