COMPANION FLANGE rear axel

To make a long story short my Excursion has been having DS vibrations ever since I installed the lift so I desided to get a CV shaft to cure the problems. After changing the rear blocks to correct the pinion angle and installing the CV DS I still have problems...it vibrates worse than it did with the stock DS . The DS manufactor says to replace the axel flange as the stock one is probably the cause since they seem to have runout I don't see how this could be the problem. The DS manu. will take back the shaft and check balance and runout but insists it's the flange.

Anyone had this problem?
Any link as to how to replace the flange?

how did you lift your truck in the rear? I had to change the flange and use ladder bars to get away from the axle twist

First I used a 5" flat block as per Edge. Then trying to get rid of the vibration I got Jessies ds and installed it .....way worse [img]/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/eek.gif[/img] called Jess and was told to rotate pinion up, so I got a Edge 5" 6* block which got the pinion correct but still vibrated. Called Jess and he said rotate ds 180*...a little better but still worse than where I started from [img]/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif[/img]. Called Jess again and he said that its more than lickly the axel flange and to get a new one, also said to change the trans mount to a 7.3 one ...that didn't make sense so I disregarded that. Jess said that he will personally recheck the ds but feels confident that its the flange. He's the expert but it seems that if the flange was the problem then why would it be way worse with a CV ds than the stocker [img]/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shrug.gif[/img]

Update..Had shaft reballanced, runout under .005". Had alinement done, roadforce ballance done. Still worse than stock [img]/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/eek.gif[/img] [img]/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mad.gif[/img]. Haven't changed the flange cause that just doesn't make any sense and there is no guarantee that I will get a good one even assuming that this one's bad. Short of driving to Jess's and having him hopefully fix it any ideas?

No aftermarket ones just the stock ones that mount forward of the axel with the urethane stops that contact the bottom of the spring pac. Did you find a aftermarket flange or did ya get another stocker. I never drag it so the only problem is steady state cruise 65 mph and up. With your lift I can understand vibration problems but I only got 4" [img]/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/eek.gif[/img] did I say that [img]/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif[/img] [img]/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif[/img]

caryt, I have the tuff country 5 1/2" tapered blocks and 04 B-codes in the rear. When I did this, I went from ALOT of vibration to none. I can't tell you which one of these did the trick, but I am guessing the combo will cure your issues. I have about the same lift in the front from Pro Comp springs and this setup leaves me about an inch high in the rear. But I bet this would be a better solution for you to start with, at least with the springs. You can adjust with the block, but I think the combo is what did it for me...I don't know if I will even put on ladder/traction bars now. Plus the ride over bumps is plush compared to the factory springs! I would try this first as it will only give you a gain on the ride at the least.

Are you saying [img]/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif[/img] that you only changed the rear springs and the vib went away? I have some SD rear springs that I could try. PS my block is a tapered one. I am really happy with the ride of the stock springs but if the SD inprove the ride any [img]/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif[/img]
