Look in the 7.3 forum in 99-and-up trucks, and you'll see numerous references to this. Ford notes that adding stop-leak pellets will turn the coolant brown, and there are clues elsewhere that point to Ford tossing a few Bars-Leaks pellets in all their new vehicles as an insurance measure, so there you go: your urine-colored coolant turns into a different excretory color!

I sure hope they didn't put stop leak in my brand new truck!!! That crap does nothing but plug stuff up down the road. I used it before and it plugged my heater core and needed back flushing. Mine is still yellow at this time (10,000). If they put in bars leak make them back flush the system and get it out. In my opinion it is used for a leak in a truck that you are selling very soon.

Well it was just pieced together from snippets here and there, but it does sound like maybe they toss a tiny bit in every new car regardless. I wholeheartedly agree with you on the snake-oil nature of the stuff in general, but it doesn't sound like they put very much in. So little that you'd never even notice it with green coolant, but apparently it turns the gold stuff brown over a few thousand miles. It really doesn't sound like anything to get worked up about, just something to note, so you don't freak out when you see your coolant.

16k on my beast and it's turning brown slowly. I've got my VC-7a in the garage and as soon as I get moved into the new place it's getting a good distilled water flushing.
Regards,
Dave
