Was over at Costco Sat. they have the 265x75x16 Michelin M&S 10 ply for $159 ea.-$50 for the set of four till the 18th. They have a great Warr. my son's Forerunner cought fire and burned the rear 2 BFG's tires flat and they replaced them free of charge. I didn't think it would be covered under road hazzard but they didn't care. Something to think about? Seems my EX + $1500 in after mkt. options= 1 safe sound truck. Never had to modify a new vehicle to make it safe. Still like it. cliffsurfs __________________________________________________ 01 EX Ltd 4x4 wht loaded/ wing, wood dash, mats, mud flaps, dash cover all from Ford Outfitters.+ Bils. If that's a load range D tire then it's a bargain price, imho. Most Michelins have pretty fragile sidewalls, so I wouldn't recommend them for offroad use. Say you're in some deep mud, and there's a piece of sharp wood buried in there, and it catches your sidewall. Ask me how I know...
But for road use they are super quality tires, probably none better.
I am trying to fit my new rig with some new tread and have a few questions...
I remember you ran 305's with stock height suspension. I am curious as to which brand. I have had great luck with BFG's in the past but found that they don't make a 305. How did you your tires etc.
I am also curious about the height of an X with bigger meats. My dilema is that April, my finance, wants to drive the X to work in the snowy season. It would be best, for many reasons, for her to park in the parking garage at work. However, the garage isn't huge. This problem probably won't affect my decision, too much. I like big tires, but it is nice to have all the info up front. Also, how tall is your X now minus the roof rack?
I appreciate your help.
Corey

Rinohuskerdu: they are E rated 10 ply. they should be quiet, tread is not agressive but are M/S not A/T's. I have Mich. 32x11.5x15 A/T's on my Landcrusier and they sing a little since new. My 84 Crusier been places you shouldn't walk. I wouldn't even try to put my EX in that type of terrain. Size alone would exclude it from some of the Mojave desert mountian outback. cliffsurfs

I ran Goodyear AT/S in a 305/70-16. That tire is about 33" tall. To find out how much taller they'd make your X, use the following formula:
I had no problem parking in our garage before the lift kit. The lift kit made it tighter. I haven't measured my X since putting on the 35s I run now. But I know it won't fit in our standard 7" garage door anymore, even without the roof rack. I only had about 1/2" to spare with the 33s, and if you apply the forumula above you'll see that the 35s raised the truck by one inch. My wife now gets to park in the double side of the garage, and I get a lot of points that way. As you married guys know, marriage is a system of points, and I need all the extras I can get. Sounds like a challenge to me! I've squeezed my X between huge rocks in sandy desert trails where I had only 2" on either side, or at least that's what my spotter said. My sheetmetal left unscathed...this time.
The big issue with Michelins and many other tires is sharp rocks versus your sidewalls. I've mortally wounded a lot of tires, most recently a P-rated Michelin M/S on an Expedition. I was just rolling over a level grassy field, and a sharp rock was hidden in the grass
I now put only tires that I know have strong sidewalls on the pickups and SUVs in my family. The Goodyear AT/S really did well on sharp rocks in the desert. I took them off the X and am now running them on my CC. If you read all the 4-wheeler type magazines, you'll see articles that talk about tires for rock-crawling. If a sidewall holds up to rock-crawling, then it's strong enough for me.
The downside is that strong sidewalls mean the ride is rougher on the road. I'm willing to put up with that. That's where those extra wifepoints come in handy.
