Hello I recently bought a new EB edition 6.0L X. I had a couple of questions about the block heater. Like if it is in the 18's and 32's do I need to plug it in and if I need to plug it in even if I am not using the next day. Also where exactly the plug is at on the truck. Finally I was looking for some brighter headlights and was wondering if any one had any suggestions. Thanks for all the help, The new diesel owner.
First off, welcome to the site. The heater plug is usually a hide and seek kind of thing. On my X it was tucked behind the fog light and one could only feel for it. It also has a plastic hood over the pronydoos so it doesn't feel like a plug would and if you happen to be able to see it it won't look like a plug either, i.e. has the plastic hood. Just keep searching behind the bumper and in front of the rad. and you will find it.
Thanks I was able to find the plug, but what temps do I need to plug it in and do I need to plug it in even if I'm not using it. Also anyone know about some good headlights?
You don't say where you hail. Here in Fla. I don't ever plug in. Some in Alaska say they don't need to plug in until -20.
Just depends on how well you want your truck to start. Also, another note, the consensus is that you only need to plug in for about 3 hours, any more is just a waste of KWH's.
I plug mine if it going to be in the 30s however I have started it at 0 with no problem with fuel addative. I have it on a timer 1.5 hours raises the temp about 35 degrees if the wind is not blowing I don't see much gain after that. It's not that it won't start it will start fine it's just that it sounds much happier with the Oil and Water at 45 or 50 and not 20. When I left work tonight it was 20 and the engine oil temp was 34 it takes a few miles to quiet down. I have digital guages and some mornings the HVAC dash read out, Oil and trans temps all read the same so I know they are all close to right on.

The diesel mechanics and tow truck drivers around here tell me to plug in if it's under 45. They tell me it's much easier on the engine.
I have started mine well under 0 without plugging in. The block heater just helps and it's nice to have "instant" heat when you pull out.
Just another opinion.

I've been researching brighter headlights for X. So far I've come to the conclusion that if you want something marginally brighter (but still brighter and better) you can go with silver stars by Sylvania.
If you want really bright headlights then get a real HID, but you will pay alot more for it... HID kits can have some drawbacks too, like I haven't found one yet that allows high beams, granted the low beams are really really bright.
Research Research Research.... I still haven't made my mind up either...

Thanks a lot for all of the tips. I will defiantely look into the Sylvania headlights, but how about brighter backup lights. Does anyone have any suggestions. Thanks.
