You might find that the E tires have deeper thread. This of-course depends on the brand. I had Michelin LTX (AS) (not MS) E range tires on the Dodge Cummins for 120,000 and that is not a misprint.

Tread depth is the same on the same brands! Your choice depends on your load. Factory the X comes with a D LR.(read the side of the tire for carrying capacity). All the load range does is support the air pressure needed to carry the load. D range has a max of 65psi and E is 85 psi. E has more plys to carry the extra air pressure. You don't drive around unloaded with max air pressure. If you do the ride harsh. If your total load is less than 13,000 # D is all you need.

My 2003 came with LT265/75R16E BFG tires and the max pressure for E's are 80 psi.

My 2WD Ex. has E rated tires with a max PSI of 80... I ride around with the factory recommended setting.

E range equals a maximum tire pressure of 80 psig. D range equals a maximum tire pressure of 65 psig.
