By 2005 they had less warranty claims than the gas engine models.

I like the extra power, higher revs, and seamless shifts of the 5 speed transmission.

Sold my 2000 7.3, love my 2005 6.0. Plus the suspension is way better than the 2000.
No worry about spring swaps to get a great ride!

New member here. 2004 XL ordered new from the factory with delivery in 04/04. 62,000 miles with NO problems. Even has original brakes which I checked today (that's why I'm here). Bone stock with a Turnover ball GN/5th wheel hitch. Run 5/40 Mobil 1 synthetic and change it every 5,000 miles, transmission flush every 30,000. New batteries last spring.

It does need shocks though, and I'm thinking of going with the budget Monroe's.....
Other than that, this truck has been rock solid reliable. Knock on wood 'cause it's off warranty!

03 2wd 95,000

I am amazed at all of these problems but more about the attitude related to the 6.0's. I have three friends all with 7.3's and they are junk. All of them have had to replace/rebuild their tranny's and have had extensive engine repair done - 95,000 and besides this coil spring breaking - Nothing - stock brake pads at 95,000 miles, My OEM tires lasted 75,000 miles. These 03 6.0's are crazy good! Get an 6.0 those 7.3's have no power and the gas mileage is a joke compared to me. 17 in town, 21 hwy and 16 towing a 9,000lb trailer!

I drove on once and am pretty sure it was broken - wouldn't go - just too slow

Wouldn't trade it for 3 7.3's

I have both, see my sig. No problems with either now. The 6.0 had some small issues at first. But, so did my 83 6.9l.

Now both the 7.3 and the 6.0 run very good. 85K miles on the 7.3 and 65k on the 6.0. But, to be honest, I don't think I would risk it again. Too scary. But the stories about the regeneration of the new diesels, I believe all manufacturers, and the low miledge, and the smog equipment. Now, I AM IN KALIFORNIA! I will not buy another for a long time. I expect to take good care of both of them and to run both of them into the ground.

Though the 6.0 issues can be corrected as they appear. And I am sure there are a lot of them out there performing great. But the reputation is bad.

I would suggest that you keep the 7.3. All engines wear out. When you have a half a million miles on it start looking around.

Had a fine 01 7.3 that I gave to an associate when it was announced mid 03 that 04 would be the last year of the X. Ordered my 04 in June of 03 and it arrived 6 weeks later. Truck is now 6 years old with 85000 miles on the clock. Have put one set of brakes on it and several Ford Batteries. The 'bad and useless' 6.0 has been faultless all that time. Used as a daily driver and pulls a car hauler trailer about 20 per cent of the time. 13 mpg in town (no trailer) and honest 19 mpg on the road if I keep it below 75 (generally flat to rolling hills and below 300 ft above sea level.)

Since I cannot replace it, I am going to keep it for the long haul. I have the room to park it for use when needed and will probably buy another daily driver next year.

Been a GREAT truck!

I'll give my feedback FWIW. Bought a 2005 with just over 5k on it to pull a trailer. 1st trip to southern CO to pick up trailer, stranded!! Local dealer got it running and we got home. Sat in front of house with trailer for a few days, went to take trailer to storage, crank no start. Towed to dealer. Had my brother take the trailer to storage with his 7.3. Got truck back, took it up to the mountains for a ski trip, stranded!! Towed back to Denver, dealer had it for 4 weeks, replaced pages of parts. Sat in the drive for 2 weeks, went to drive it, crank no start!! Towed to dealer, replaced more parts, finally got it back and it did run. I think it actually had more miles on the back of a flatbed than it did on the road.

I called bank and said come get this POS I'm not making another payment on it!! And they did...

The crazy thing is I came back to this board because I was looking at a 2007 F-350, and was hoping to read that the 6.0 had been miraculously cured, but sadly that doesn't seem the case.

95000 on my 6.0. Bought it brand new in late 2004 and it has had only minor problems and has never left me stranded. Its hit and miss with all trucks built. Stock to stock a 6.0 will run circles around a 7.3.

I have about 123K on my 05
Had to replace the turbo at about 70K same as my 7.3
Had glow plug issues at 95K but I think the dealer caused it while doing trans work.

Just replaced the alternator
May be having a glow plug problem but I have some software on my lap top that "says" the ECM says the GPCM and glow plugs are 0K
I am going to check amperage and volts soon.

Other than that it has been a great truck.

Due to trans and turbo and a few other minor problems I got the 200K engine warranty at a discount $0.0 cost to me from FORD.

I have only Ford products Each kid has one ford, last non ford product I had was in the early 80s I think that was part of the reason they gave me the extended warranty.

If was looking for used I would check the oasis extend the warranty and drive on!

Hope this helps

Bruce
