Took the day off work to try and get caught up on spousal chores. Was pulling out of Sam's across a busy 4 lane and the X died in the middle of the turn. Was if someone pulled the coil wire off of a gas burner. No warnings, no missing, just a straight shut off. While sitting in the middle of the highway, watching traffic approach at 60mph, I hit the starter and she fired right up, put it in gear and hit safer waters. Pulled on off the road, started and restarted several times, nothing. Got on it on pretty hard on the way home, nothing. Changed the fuel filter about 4,000 miles ago @ 12,000. Is this the start of a CPS problem? Had a CPS go out a couple of years ago on our 550, but it gave me no warnings prior. Anything else I might be over looking? Sure sounds like CPS to me. Have the dealer check to see if it threw a code (they sometimes don't). If it did, you're in luck, the dealer should replace it for you. If no code, you might buy a CPS unit from a navistar dealer and throw it in your glove box that next time it goes out on you in the middle of traffic, you can change it yourself and be done with it. I had this happen 3 times, first two times in traffic and no code, the third time it died on me @ 60mph and boy what fun. After that it would start and die every 10-20 ft. This time it threw a code and the dealer replaced it. Pain the A _ _ !

Yea the CAMP sensor is the biggest PIA part for the FORD dealer to get a code read from.
If you're operating an International badged truck like a 4300 and up and the CAMP sensor does the same thing, the International dealer replaces the sensor without even taking the time to code read it as they "Know" the problem first hand.
Now if only Ford Truck service would follow the same que Not!!

This is what I'm afraid of, that it did not push out a code. Called the dealership this morning and got the same song and dance, "If it did not put out a code, then we can not replace....." This might be okay if we were not headed down to FL next week with an 85 year old grandmother and 2 little ones. For kicks I'm going to let the dealership look at it in the morning, and if they will not do the right thing, then head over to International and pick up 2.
Searched over on the 7.3 forum for those replacement instruction I saw awhile back, anybody know where they went?
I've got a buddy who works at a local Ford dealer....he said all their techs are aware of the issues and replace the CMP whenever there is even a hint there could be a problem. He did the one in my '02 before I traded it in one day when I was down there to get the PCM upgraded.....he did the CMP cause I mentioned a weird missing I had a few weeks earlier.
Too bad you aren't close by or I'd tell you to go see him.

Ok I give what is the "CMP" sensor? Most owners carry an extra CPS sensor in their glove boxes along with a deep socket 10mm wrench to change it. I suggest you just get an extra sensor from International and carry it along or just change it and be done with it.
CAMP or CMP should be the same as "Cam Position Sensor" They're called CPS in the Ford camp and CAMP at the International service shops.

Anoxic, from your description I'd agree with the other advice you have gotten on replacing the CPS. I just did this a couple of weeks ago. The truck would die at intersections or miss at high speed. After it died coming up to an intersection, I realized how dangerous this can get trying to steer and stop 7k lbs. of truck with no power!
Mine threw a code which I couldn't read, but since I would have had to pay the dealer $100 on warranty, I just got one at International and replaced it using the instructions from this group. Took about 5 minutes. And the best part is, no more missing or coasting into intersections with no power.
Part number please. I want to throw one in the glove box.
Thnaks,

Purchase order from International Truck says 1825899C93. I'm sure the box doesn't have that many numbers on it so, as I said, I'll check it when I get home this evening.
Verification on part # 1825899C93. Picked one up Thursday at the International dealer. $79.00 plus tax. For kicks stopped by dealership and the best I could talk them down was $172.00.
So it is in the glovebox along with a 10mm wrench. Now the 3 dollar question, where does this sucker go? I've searched the 7.3 forum, and I can not find the post that showed how to replace. Where is the CPS located?
