In the "No Boundries" accessory catalogue, available in the parts dept at all F**D dealers, is a dog gate, which pressure fits to the side stationary windows in the cargo area of an Explorer, and an Expedition.... of course, not available for an Excursion. It's a terrific piece, 'cause it's the only gate I've seen which will really confine an exhuberant pet. My gate pressure fits from roof to floor, and you tighten it the best you can, and dogs like mine laugh at you, and as soon as you finish, and put them back there, they knock it over!!!!
Does anyone know where you can get a gate like I'm describing??? I"ve tried everywhere, every catalogue, pet store, internet!!!!!
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I have three dogs and also tried to get away with a dog barrier in the back area. I ended up removing the third seat and using three 24x36 crates to hold my exhuberant weimaraners. I would suggest trying plastic zip ties for your dog barrier. Attach the metal tubes to the headrests with zip ties as that helps to keep the barrier from being jostled around. This works for me in my 97 Expedition. Try the zip ties and let me know if they work for you.

Wouldn't you know that my "offending" dog is a Weimaraner as well???? His name is Harley, he's 2, and I don't think he'll ever calm down. I may take your suggestion, if I can't find the barrier I'm talking about. I've actually seen in here in Nashville, and found out that it was purchased out of a catalogue that no longer carried them, and the manufacturer is out of business....... Hmmmmmmmmmm---should I go in the dog barrier business?
I use a Midwest van/suv barrier in my 97 Expedition and a Kennel-aire "barri-aire" in my 93 Isuzu Trooper. Both are strapped down using 14" cargo ties with any excess length cut off. Ended up with crates for the Excursion because they fit nicely without obstructing the rear view too much. Bought most of the dog products from the Foster & Smith and R.C. Steele catalogs.
BTW most weims calm down at about 3 years old. I have a 4 year old male, Tyson and two 1 1/2 year old litter sisters, Tyra and Tori.
They are currently being field-trialed and hunt tested almost every weekend.
The Excursion is great for the long drives between events as well as getting to some of the remote "off-road" locations of some of the fields. The dogs consider the cargo area a second-home because of the amount of time spent in the truck.
