Suburbans and other vehicles have a dome override button to kill them. Anyone figure out what wire or any short cuts to make one on the Ex?
Thanks

No not yet, but I liked that feature on my Suburban.

The "door ajar" lighting is on 4 circuits ... one for each of the front doors, one for the pair of rear doors, and one for the liftgate. I wired in a row of four toggle switches under my dashboard.
I used the factory wiring diagram book (available from helminc.com) to determine which wires I needed to cut at the GEM.
According to my owners manual if you rotate the dimmer switch down all the way it turns the dome lights off, however mine does not seem to have this feature, so I am wondering if this is an optional feature, maybe there is a different dimmer switch that can be put in.
I just discovered tonight that if I roll the interior light switch up and past the detent for the interior lights, then back down/off, the interior light go off!!!
I was thrilled!! No need for any other switches.
Just turn the interior lights on and then off and they go off. I tested it 2 times and viola'!! It's like it they are on, you can still turn them off, you just need to turn the switch on to catch up to them, then off. Hey, I tried it and it does work, there's your dome overide. I am not sure when I might use this but it does speed up the shutting off, you can do it right now instead of waiting for the auto shut off. Maybe that is what Family Guy was saying, othewise I am lost too.

Here is how it worked for me, I got in the truck and the lights were all on, I turned the dimmer switch all the way up to the top or on, then turned it down just until the detend and the lights went off, maybe you did not turn the dial down after.

dome light over ride. This is how you do it on a 250/350. The wires should be the same on an x. Ill tell you how to test it first since i dont have an x to try. Pop the passenger kick panel off. There is a group of connectors. The square 16 pin closest to the floor. It has a black wire with a blue trace on it. Unplug this connector and the dome lights should go out. Plug in and they will come back on. If indeed this happened, then it works on an x just like the pickup. Now, assuming this worked, cut the black wire with blue tracer. run it through a simple on/off switch and you now have a dome light bypass. Good luck. As stated, this works on p-up and the x uses the same dome light trigger wire for an alarm, but unplug the harness to verify before you cut anything.

I'm going to try that, we sleep in the back of ours and it is rather bright in the middle of the night when you open the doors, something like waking up in the middle of a runway I think, just not as loud.

I am not sure what he was saying. I tried to roll the dimmer switch up past the dome light on position and nothing happened.

Simply put, turn them on then back off with the switch.
But seeing other posts, I can see where having the power to them cut off would be good, like the sleeping in it thing.

I tried this on an 06 F350 and disconnected the two square connectors at the kick panel, there is not a black with blue trace wire, and neither of the connectors controlled the dome light . . . would sure like to do this dome override switch but it doesn't work the same on 06 F350 like it does on earlier models or the X.

I really like the push button on the Chevys and GMC's. Our work van would have a dead battery every day if it didnt. You know about those 20 and 21 year old kids!
