Picked up an 02 excursion a week ago, and just today, the door ajar light won't go off, even when all the doors are closed. The interior lights stay on for some time, even when you get in it to drive.
Any suggestions on what i need to do to get this resolved.
Thanks,
Chris

It's fairly common for the door ajar switches to gum up. Spray some lubricant like WD40 into the door latches and open/close the doors several times. That might take care of it.

Thanks for the suggestion. I tried it out, and about wore the hinges out opening and closing all the doors. Didn't seem to help.
Any other suggestions?
Thanks,
Chris

Lots and lots of penetrating oil and lots and lots of door opening/closing.
Operating correctly at the moment.
Thanks much,
Chris

Problem is back, and won't seem to go away for more then a day at a time (that is if i hit it with the penetrating oil again.)
Anybody priced one of these switches? I need to fix this soon.
It's a real pain... when you get out of the truck, the radio won't shut off, the lights don't go out (for a while) and the key fob is useless.
thanks,
chris

I had a problem like that on mine. I used carb & brake cleaner to get the junk out and the some white lithium grease to lube and protect. So far mine has been good. It wouldn't last until I got it really clean.

I'm leaning towards a VSM issue now. The more research i have done, the more it seems like that may be my problem. I actually pulled all the door ajar switches out of all the doors, and tested them. They are all functional. While i was at it, i cleaned and lubed them. I'm gonna replace the VSM and see what that does.
Thanks,
Chris

I believe the dealer has to program the VSM. I told my dealer it was my problem & it still took them 2 weeks to fix it, but all is well now.

I have a similar problem, the switch on the rear hatch doesn't work well, the rest work fine, but I have to slam the rear hatch to get it to turn the door ajar sensor off. Not with a lot of force, but not softly like i can do the other doors. Hope that helps in some way
My X has the same deal as Finaltheorem47's. I have to "close" the rear hatch a bit more forcefully, and make sure that the handle / actuator is all the way down as it closes in order to turn off the ajar indicator.
I had the same problem and spoke with my friendly
Ford mech.
It seems that the switch that controls the lights is not inside near the latch mechanism but out at the handle mechanism.
If you spray your break free into the handle slightly upwards and rotate it slightly you will coat the contacts and then begin the door slamming.
After doing that you should find the contacts work better.

Funny. I have an '02 Excursion that has the same problem, but intermittent. When I last had the problem I was suspecting the back hatch door (mine flips up hatch, with the two mini doors)The problem stopped before I acted to fix.I was planning on removing the 'door closed' buttons and ohm metering them.
Guys, the door ajar switches are located inside the door at the latch. They are a little plunger switch that the lock mechanism presses in the final bit of rotation. You have to take the door panel off and reach back into the door at the latch and remove the wire connector (Two prong plug). Then the switch will rotate (I can not remember which way, I think it is different on each side of the truck), and pull it out of the mount. The switch part numbers are (XF1Z-14018-BA for the right doors and XF1Z-10B987-AA for the left doors). I have a 2000 X and a 2000 F350 CC DRW and they are the same part. I have had to change all of them on my X and the rear doors on my Super Duty. Mine would act up and show the door open one time and the next time you started the truck up they would be fine. No troubles after I changed them out.
