I need some ideas of where to start: the 3 doors on the back close tightly but sometimes won't shut off the sensor circuit so the interior lights and running board lights stay on until they time out. I've loosened the screws holding the sensors on the doors a couple different times, but it still does the same thing. Sometimes I can slam the doors and it will quit, but not always.
Any suggestions?

WD-40 fixed mine. The only trick is to decide which door you are going to try last and do it first . When I lubed mine I about gave up but the last door I tried is the one that needed the WD-40.
Works great to figure out what switch is bad or sticking. I replace the switches if there under warranty or I will not get paid. Got to replace something to get paid from Ford. The WD40 trick may have to be done again but it cheaper and easier than replacing those dam switches.

WD-40 has been working for over two years without another application. Does Ford make you replace the engine when the oil needs changed? Replace the door hinges when they squeak? Things like this makes me real nervous taking my rig to the dealer..

I used WD40 on mine ... worked for awhile ... then replaced all 6 switches. A couple switches were in the old boxed containers (versus the newer plastic bags), so I had the problem arise again after replacement 'cause the replacements were the old style switches. I finally studied the Ford wiring diagrams and wired in 4 toggle switches at the GEM under my dash; one for each front door, one for the pair of rear doors, and one for the liftgate. Oddly enough, my door ajar switches haven't given me a moment's problem since installing the switches last summer. I was hoping I could at least narrow the problem down to a pair of them. Anyways, should the problem flare up again, I'm ready to disconnect the offending switch without turning the juice off to the electric windows and other items ... can't even shift out of park if you pull the door ajar fuse.
Tim, please don't take this personally, 'cause it's not meant to be. But your comment reminds me of our experience with one Merc dealer. The wife bought a new Sable LS wagon in Feb. '87. In May, tried the A/C and it didn't work. Took it in and the technician said it needed a new controller, not in stock , so it was ordered. Two weeks later, the wife goes in for the controller. When the car was ready, she tried the A/C. Guess what? No cold air. So she parked it blocking the bay door and went for the service mgr. She explained the situation. He calls over the technician. When asked about the A/C, the technician responds to the Service Mgr. with "you told me to install it, not to check it!" Final resolution: when the car was built, they forgot to install the fuse for the A/C.

That said, I could never work in retail because I couldn't deal with some of these customers.

I can agree with this. That tech will not last long in this dog eat dog business.

Thanks, everyone, for your input. The WD40 seems to have stopped the problem! That was sure easy...
