Drivers seat starting to crack.

I have noticed that my drivers seat has started to crack. Need to find the original type of "Leather" and replace.
Does anyone know of good vendors for this material?

Thanks

Ken

Re: Drivers seat starting to crack.

It's really not "leather" but a leather fiber impregnated vinyl. How's that.

Have you thought about recovering with somehting like Katzkin's?

Other than that, I'm sure a good upholstery shop would have, or can get it easy enough. It's pretty much what all manufactures use for their "leather seating surface".

Re: Drivers seat starting to crack.

Mine did the same thing. I bought the replacements for the captains seats (Excursion) from HERE . These are factory replacements, so they have all the hold downs and the right cut already.

Re: Drivers seat starting to crack.

Replacing the seat cover with a fomoco replacement is a pretty easy do-it-yourself job. Pulling out the seat, dis and reassembly is pretty straightforward.

I replaced my seat bottom foam at 105K to get a firmer seat, like on my passenger side. Was a 1 hr job.

Re: Drivers seat starting to crack.

Looking at prices for the Ford OEM covers, pleather covers are anywhere from $150-$200. The others are cheaper.

Looking at the parts list though, they usually only list the Limited.

I'm sure the Ford system has all of them. I'd just be worried about cost for the other pleather covers like for EB. If they aren't in the same demand, they could be much more expensive. But it might make sense that the Limited's seats wear quicker being more subtle and smooth.

Re: Drivers seat starting to crack.

Had cracking on the driver side seat at 104K miles when purchased in 03 and it really hasn't gotten much worse. The steering wheel was also had a hole in it then and it's gotten bigger since (covered now). Today on the way home from up North noticed a small crack on the driver side armrest, 173K miles.

Re: Drivers seat starting to crack.

I've been thinking of getting a seat from a wrecked unit as the seat itself is starting to sack out along with being torn where the 'leather' meets the cloth at the back of the seat bottom.

Re: Drivers seat starting to crack.

Has any one looked at the cost of the King Ranch Leather?

I am sure the front would fit the second row looks close I have no ideal if they are even close.

Having real leather in an X would nice.

There I go again modifying the X with Ford parts!

I'd probably look at Katzkin's before the KR. It seems like someone in the General forum had priced it, and it was expensive. Katzkin can be customized with good quality real leather that you could match much better.

I'm not sure about cost with Katzkin though.
