Allright all you electrical wizards, here's your chance to shine again
I'm trying to get Daytime Running Lights installed on my Excursion. I ordered what I thought were the correct parts based on info in this and other forums.
Discounting the Auto Headlights option/kit, which I do NOT want.
The basic components needed to energize DRL is the load resistor, which is fairly universal, and I have that part.
Here's the tricky part. I need the number for the one and only other component in the DRL puzzle. The Relay assembly (Ford packaging calls them a wiring assembly??).
The number for the relay assy that keeps popping up on this site is 1C3Z-13B218-BA. Obviosly this part is for SD pickups only, because it has the wrong connector on it for the Excursion. The pickup part has the large square 16 pin female connector on it, and this is correct for the pickups. But the Excursion has a round connector behind the glove box that is aprox 1" in diameter and has somewhere around 8 pins or so (I can't remember the pin count now)
So, does anybody know the part number for the Excursion DRL relay??????
Thanks In Advance (TIA)

What is wrong with the factory aftermarket kit. It was inexpensive and was easy to install. I actually bought it for the automatic turn on feature and disabled the daylight portion.

There are two separate kits that Ford offers for daytime running lights. I don't have p/n's but one includes the autolamps, which is the auto-on headlight feature.
When I installed my auotolamp version, I don't recall anything tricky about it. In fact, it is a generic kit that could be used on other vehicles if you had the wiring diagram and wire colors available.

The kit they showed me looked incredibly "cheezy". It was probably the wrong one because all it consisted of was a black box with an adjustable knob, and a ton of wires with crimp type butt connectors(which sounds like a lot of cutting and splicing needs to be done), there was no resistor, or relay pack(both of which are required).
If the kits have this little box, then it's just another piece of "stuff" hanging somewhere on/under the dash. Don't need that.
P.S. I'm going down to look at another kit from another dealership today. I'll let ya'll know how that goes.

No wonder I can't find the right parts
I looked on his computer screen (Ford dealership), and it showed two part numbers. It's almost impossible to look a part number up on the way Ford has their computer system set up
Somehow he stumbled accross a picture of the relay assembly I need to complete this installation. But unlike the GM parts computers, he can't get a part number off of that picture?????
So the kit came and of course was nothing more than the Automatic Headlight kit, but was meant to be installed in a vehicle WITH DRL. It does not contain the resistor or the relay assembly. I had to beg and plead with him to get him to order the only other "kit" on that page that included the words "wire and relay" assembly. So in about 5 days when it comes, I'll see if it at least has the relay I need
I can't believe Ford makes ordering individual parts so hard. It's not like going into a GM parts computer. Their you look at a picture of where the part is located on the vehicle, and all he has to do is select it by drawing number and it shows the part number of every component(if there's more than one part involved).

After several times ordering the wrong parts, based on info I took from the Super Duty forums regarding Daytime Running Lights, I did some research and finally received the correct parts I need to get DRL's working in the Excursion!!! (2001) (I can't vouch for this working in the 2002's because of wiring changes made in them).
The resistor needed is the same part number no matter what the platform SD or Exc.
1C3Z-14A601-AA
This is the resistor that mounts just between the driver's side battery and the headlight frame in front of it. There's a plug there just waiting for something to be plugged into it.
The Relay assembly however is NOT the same one used in the Super Duty's. The one needed for the Excursion is part number:
YC3Z-13B218-AA.
This relay mounts up above and behind the glove box, and there's an empty connector up in there just waiting for something to be plugged into it.
So, by plugging these two devices in to the existing harnesses (no cutting or splicing required), you will have Daytime Running Lights.
There are other parts required (cutting and splicing) if you also opt for the Automatic Headlamps (the ones that automatically turn themselves on and off depending on ambient lighting). I was not at all interested in the auto headlamp feature (because I have it on my Buick, and got tired of using it years ago) which made finding this correct relay so much trouble (because Ford's computers have the wrong descriptions for some of these parts).
Hope this helps some of you out!!
MY DRL's WORK!!
P.S. Now all I have to do is try and figure out where that relay assembly is supposed to be bolted too up in there.

Man, Dave, Ford made it hard for you. It would have been easier to just fab up wiring yourself. Or use an auxiliary lighting kit but connect it to the lowbeams instead of to auxiliary lights. Or install a fog light kit and run them as DRLs. That's what I did.
It would be worse. On new Toyotas, the entire computer is different for DRL-equipped vehicles. There's no practical way to add DRLs to a Sequoia except fabbing the wiring yourself. Ask me now I know....

That just sounded like way too much work for me
I was bound and determined to do whatever it took to make this a true plug-n-play application. I knew it had to be that easy, I could see the connectors for the option just where the wiring diagrams said they should be. Just had to find the right parts to plug into them.
Now, if I could just figure out where the factory would have bolted that relay assembly mounting bracket up under the dash. I have mine zip tied up in there for now.

There are two small holes for the bracket in the metal header over the glove box door. They'd be in the right hand corner. EZ
I have a 2000 and can not find the plug in front of the battery and the head light frame. Am I just overlooking it or is it not on the 2000's? Has anyone else with a 2000 found it? There is a somewhat large wiring harness there but I couldn't find any type of plug for the resistor.
Sure would like the have the plug and play DRL's on mine.

Maybe I'm blind, but I couldn't find any holes to match the mounting bracket
Can you be REAL specific on where to look?

Not sure about the 2000's, but the socket (two wire) is right in front of the driver's side battery behind the headlight.

Just checking to see if anyone else with a 2000 had a chance to check if they have the plug in front of the drivers battery? I can not find it on mine but sure wish I could.

Were you ever able to find it? It's a fairly small two pin plug, and the wire colors are:
YE/BK (yellow with a black tracer)
OR/LG (orange with a light green tracer)
Look around the driver's side, anywhere in front of the battery, behind it, beside it, even around the air box. Who knows where they might have stuffed it. Maybe even on the passenger side somewhere near that headlight?
