Drone while Towing

Long time Lurker...First time Poster.......

Stock Exhaust with a Walker BTM I've got a nasty drone between 65 and 75 towing my trailer (heavy), Its fine unloaded. Will a turn down tip help? Any drone with the Banks or Magna Flow exhaust?

Thanks

Re: Drone while Towing

GRNDNL,

Can't speak for Banks but, no drone with Magnaflow. You could try a resonator tip, that might help. JS.

Re: Drone while Towing

The turn down will help a bit, but the drone is tough to get rid of. I switched to a magnaflow muffler, and got less flutter, and less drone except above 70mph!! Went to a full 4" system (3.5 DP) and it reduced it some, but not much. Ended up adding a small dynomax (12") welded ultraflo just behind the downpipe, about 2ft upstream of the main muffler, and that has dropped it a lot - maybe 50%. It's still there though Turn down tip is definetly quieter than a straight one.

If you are not EGT challenged, I would stick to the stock muffler. Although it does perform much better with the full exhaust.

Re: Drone while Towing

I had drone that I couldn't stand with my 4" and Dynomax. Purchased a 4" straight through, 30"- 36" over all, MagnaFlow from ITP and it is as good as stock. Almost no drone when towing and it is as quiet as stock. No flutter at all. Had it bad with the Dynomax. I think it is great and so does the wife.

Re: Drone while Towing

I had a drone and a metal on metal vibration when I first installed my BTM. I solved the problem with a piece of flex pipe in my downpipe from www.epiflex.com
