Re: Dumb Question

Depending on who you believe... They either slapped a new sticker on the hitch, or... Did extensive safty testing and slapped a new sticker on the hitch.

The X is basicly a F-350. The chassis is capable of quite a bit more than a standard c-IV hitch.

Cheers,

Rob

The list of changes from Ford really do not state what exactly changed to increase the tow capacity to 11,000 pounds.

The axles on the Excursions are that of an F250, not F350. The suspension is a trimmed down version of the F250's with compensations made for height and "ride quality," though some would question the ride quality improvements.

Dumb Question

Just curious.
On my 2001 PSD X, it lists the max towing amount at 10,000 lbs.

I noticed on the new 2002 brochures, that they list the 2002 PSD X at 10,500-11,000 lbs towing.

Just curious how, or what they did to etch out the extra 1k.

Or maybe they didn't do anything...was just curious.

Re: Dumb Question

In 2000 and 2001 the front and rear axles on the Excursion were the same as an F250 or a Single Rear Wheel (SRW) F350 with PSD. Some of the Ford specifications are incorrect and misleading, but the newest Ford Sourcebook is mostly correct. Some people are saying that the 2002 4x4 Super Duty SRW has a Dana 60 front axle instead of the Dana 50 used on mine, but I am not sure this change was made on the Excursion for 2002.

My PSD Supplement manual lists the Excursion as having a 20,000 Gross Cargo Weight Rating, and since the Gross Vehicle Weight Rating of my 4x4 is 9,200 pounds that would come out to a 10,800 pound trailer load. No one has pointed out any physical differences (other than the sticker) in the equalizing receiver itself, between the early and later Excursions.
