DVD player

I just put in A Bugs Life DVD for my grandson and in standard screen setting I get the normal black border on right and left sides of the 7" screen but in widescreen I get the same right and left border plus a top and bottom border. What's up with that ? The viewing size is about 2.5"x5" . Anyone have that problem with some DVD's from the Ford DVD player?

Re: DVD player

Is your version of the DVD Widescreen or Fullscreen? I sounds like it may be a Fullscreen version (made for a normal 4X3 TV), which would cause the problems you are seeing.

Re: DVD player

The "A Bugs Life" DVD gives you a choice of standard and widescreen and it should only have a very small top and bottom black borders in 2.35:1 widescreen mode but it has large right and left and large top and bottom borders in widescreen mode . So it only shows a 2.5" x5 " view in the center of the 7" screen. "American Beauty" has the same 2.35:1 Anamorphic Widescreen and has a very small black border top and bottom and that is what I expected. "Saving Private Ryan" has a 1.85:1 Anamorphic Widescreen format and that is perfect (no border)on the Ford 7" screen. I think there is a software glitch in the Ford DVD player with the "Bugs Life" DVD since it has the same 2.35:1 format as American Beauty but shows a large border all around. On my Toshiba 36" TV "A Bugs Life" has the normal top and bottom border in widescreen mode using the xbox DVD player.

The "Saving Private Ryan" DVD sounds fantastic with the opening battle in the Excursion.
