DVD System (factory) application question

I am thinking of bidding on a complete system however, the add states' '03-05 Excursion.

My question is this, my Excursion is an 2001 so, what is the difference? This comes with all the mounts and brackets, something tells me the harness to plug it in is already there.

Does anybody have experience with this and can confirm the harness?

Re: DVD System (factory) application question

I think the factory head unit is different for the newer truck vs the older ones. This is importnant since they control the factory dvd and sound of the dvd thru the system.

Re: DVD System (factory) application question

Check the For Sale forum though. There are always a bunch of newer OEM head units for sale.

Re: DVD System (factory) application question

The system went from VCP to DVD as a running change during the 2002 model year

Not sure when seems like sometime in early 02. My 02 built in Sept of 01 was the VCP and it was mounted in the back of center consol.

So I think the wiring would be different.

I am sure you could make it work but you will need the wiring info.

Hope this helps.

Re: DVD System (factory) application question

I put a factory DVD unit in my 02 EX when I had it that I got off eBay. No wiring harness in headliner area for sure. Head unit was not setup to control. You can get a module to accept line audio and control it with the CD changer function in the head unit. I didn't do that. I ran a wireless FM modulator to the audio out of the DVD player and just tuned the radio. A wired type that plugs directly into the FM antenna would work better but is harder to install.
I posted a writeup about this back in 03 and is in the archives somewhere.
Good luck on the brackets and mounting. I opted to order a factory bracket and dropped the headliner to install. Not too bad. Did it in the driveway in 20deg weather with the truck running in a couple of hours.

Re: DVD System (factory) application question

Depending on how much you're getting it for, I'd think going after-market would open up the opportunity for much better quality and the chance to customize it to how you'll use it.

Re: DVD System (factory) application question

your better off getting an aftermarket unit. you can find the audiovox 10.2 with built in dvd player for about 800. biiger and a lot less hassel than the factory.
