" Dyno Tests....."

Has any Power Stroke Excursion owners done any dyno testing? Would like to see how their testing went, and to compare it to a friends results. Thanks, JCL First post.............

Re: " Dyno Tests....."

Welcome to the Board!

274 rwhp. 8/23/02 with mods listed in my signature. Didn't do it "stock" if that's the type of numbers you're looking for.

Regards,
Dave

Re: " Dyno Tests....."

Dave. Thanks for the reply. Thats fairly close to the HP readings we got. The best was 249.1 HP, but the torque was large at 778.5. The mods were 4" Grand Rock QP exhaust with 4" STS HP Baffle, and the Superchip.( Turbo Diesel Excursion-2WD)
We did get a "stock" run before doing the mods. That got 181.8 HP, and 431.7 torque.
With just the 4" exhaust/baffle upgrade,, it pulled 182.4 HP, and 540.8 torque. Not to bad for a 4" exhaust/baffle up grade.
These were all done on a Mustang Dynamometer (inground) and 4 pulls back to back. Best one chosen.
Would be curious about others tests to compare. Thanks for the welcome. JCL

Re: " Dyno Tests....."

Wow . .I'm glad to see someone else having huge torque numbers. Mine was a single pull on a portable mustang, and my torque number was 698. It didn't seem to make sense to me that it should be that high. I'm not sure if torque is reduced 20% for drivetrain losses though. Possibly it isn't. If it isn't then mine was right on the money for what I would have expected.

Take care,
Dave

Re: " Dyno Tests....."

Dave. It will be interesting to see if anybody else is in the ballpark with about the same mods.
We did put on a K&N air filter set up, but only jumped the torque 4 Lb's. Needless to same that particular model went back.
I had another friend several weeks ago get the same large increases with a Dmax. Same set ups. The shop that had the dyno said these were true readings. I mean you have to + or - the readings somewhat, but not a lot. There are still variables, just like anything. Thats why we did 4 pulls back to back. Happy Holidays. JCL

It's already reduced by the time it get's to the wheels. It should be right. Or did you have the engine out when you did it?

Re: " Dyno Tests....."

It was measured in the chassis.

The reason I don't know about Torque driveline losses is because of the way in which it's measured. I've done some reading but can't find a good answer. The Horsepower is definately reduced because it's a function of torque x RPM divided by 5252. So if you have slippage and friction loses I can see how you'd have horsepower loss. (it's a measure of work). Torque on the other hand is a measure of twisting force. If you had the TC locked when dynoing then I'd think the only loss would be the friction of the driveline on it's bearing surfaces, across the gearset. This wouldn't be as great as it would be for horsepower.

Of course if I knew what I was talking about then I'd know the answer!

The main reason I question whether there's the loss is that the 698/705 number would be reasonable with no losses.

Factory (525 ft/lbs) +
SCMT 80 (135 ft/lbs) +
Banks (35 ft/lbs) +
K&N (18 ft/lbs)
Total = 713

I wish I had paid more attention in Physics class! Either way I'm real happy with the way it pulls.

Regards,
Dave

Re: " Dyno Tests....."

You'll spend less and get more with BullyDog Technologies. They also have great service. They will send u a bran new chip if anything goes wrong.

Re: " Dyno Tests....."

WantmoreHP. Looks like good numbers to me. My friends stock numbers were fairly close to yours. You really got some HP gains with the chip and the "5" inch exhaust. What was the torque with that set up? I have another friend with a new Excursion thats going to dyno test after the first of the year. It's a 4X4 with 4" exhaust, STS Baffle, Dual chip, and Propane. It should be very interesting to compare yours and his. Will keep you posted.
Thanks,JCL
