Edge Evo on an X

So I am trying to decided on which box to buy for my 7.3, while reading I find a couple of references to guys having problems with the PATS on the X and programers. Does anyone have an Evo on there PATTS equipped X and did you have any problems.

Thanks...

Re: Edge Evo on an X

JR2,I had no real problems with my PATS. After I downloaded my program from Edge Evo the PATS did kick in and the truck wouldn't start but in less the 2 min. the problem was fixed . All I did was follow the directions in the troubleshooting which was very easy, and she fired right up and no problems at all ever since BTW you can feel a HUGE difference and the wife is afraid to drive it,which is a good thing. Good luck hope this helps

Re: Edge Evo on an X

I installed one on my '03 a while ago. The first time I installed the program, I got locked out and had to follow the instructions in the EVO manual to reset the PATS. Since then, I've returned it to stock (each time it goes to dealer for service) and juggled the performace programs several times without issue. The unlock procedure was really simple and only took a couple of minutes extra as a result, though the instructions state if that hadn't worked, the next step to try involved disconnecting the batteries for a couple of hours, so don't try to install this for the first time 20 minutes before you have to be somewhere. I'll second the comment that it makes a world of difference. I run tow mode the most, it's manners (noise, throttle response, shift quality, ect) are simillar to stock but it's got more pep throughout the powerband and holds a gear climbing hills better. I decided to try race mode recently and man what a difference. The engine is bit noisier and the throttle is pretty touchy (I had to retrain my foot for stop and go traffic driving) but man does it go. I'd also like to point out that I've gotten really good customer service from edge. My trans didn't shift quite right in race mode when I first tried it, so I contacted them, and they upgraded it with their newest firmware (I had pretty early firmware version) that addressed the issue (apx 5 day turn around). Since I haven't tried the other tuners available, I can't state this is the "best", but I'm really happy with the performance and support I've gotten from mine.

Re: Edge Evo on an X

I also have very good customer service experience with Edge. They answered my emails promptly. Sent the Evo out on Monday to get the software upgraded and got it back on Friday, twice. The race program is kicking ass. Also, running empty I get a little over 18mpg at 75mph average.

Re: Edge Evo on an X

Hey Guys thanks for the info. Edge makes good stuff and I have used there stuff on my Dodge for quite a while. I just wanted to make sure an EVO would work good on the X. I guess its time to make the purchase.

One question, how are your egt's on the EVO's lowest setting?? I don't have gauges yet and am going to save up for a Juice with attitude in the spring.

Thanks,

John

Re: Edge Evo on an X

One thing I noticed is the Evo on level 2 was very touchy. I think it has more power on level 2 than my Juice and Attitude does on level 5. Go for it. Right now I am running level 3 on the Juice and level 1 on the Evo and love it. Awesome combo.

Re: Edge Evo on an X

I'm pulling an 8k # toy box and, on the grades, It'll hit 1200 (pre turbo). As it starts getting up there, I just drop down a gear or back off a little. Just FYI; I'm running a 4" Magnaflow (3.5"DP) and a stock intake. I'm sure a different intake will improve things too, just haven't decided which one to get.

WHOA...you need a new intake NOW. Get an aFe Magnum Force (Stage I or II) or a K&N conical setup (not the OEM box style replacement). Or, buy a Tymar Baldwin filter setup or make it yourself. But if you're towing and have a chip, you need A LOT more air getting in there.

Oh yeah...I forgot. I have heard good things about the Ford AIS setup too.

Re: Edge Evo on an X

I'd been leaning toward the Ford AIS too, since this is an OEM "approved" intake upgrade. My first concern with this set up is the cost of replacement elements for this unit. Then I read threads like this one Here and Here that lead me to believe that while it certainly offers better filtration in extreme conditions, it's not going to offer the flow improvement I need when towing. So, back to square one.

Re: Edge Evo on an X

I have the edge ez, I tow 10,000lbs and have not had one glitch. It is 60hp/90lbs tq and is just enough, it does not mess up one single thing and installs in seconds, really.

Re: Edge Evo on an X

I just got my EVO today and all I gotta say is, WOW. I had no problems with programming mine at all. It was pretty easy. The only other thing I wish it would do is change my speedo for my bigger tires.
