Edge Suspention

I just noticed this lift. I was thinking of 3 inches and it looks like a block rear and a schakle front. Is this safe to put so much preasure on the schakle. It looks easy and is cheap....but you get what you pay for so I am asking the experts

Re: Edge Suspention

I'd go with the Edge 2" leveling kit and F350 rear 4" blocks, the Excursion should be about level front to back with V codes.

But if your front springs are still the stockers the 3" leveling kit should do ya.

Re: Edge Suspention

My front springs are still stock. I am affraid of stiffening the ride with the V codes. Arn't those for the 350, and the X for the 250 or do I have that backwards. The kit looks easy and will retain the stock ride. I can see the X,Y springs would be even cheaper but more work. I want more height but not at the expence of the ride. Thanks CHP.

Re: Edge Suspention

I can only give you my experiance, but changing the stock 'D' code springs out for 'V' codes did not make the ride "stiff" at all. The differance can best be described as going from a log truck to riding on a cloud. The only down side was that they made it 'look' nose high but the F-350 blocks cleared that right up.

Just my experiance.

Re: Edge Suspention

Were the springs about 150 each. I think that would be safer than putting all that strain on the schakles. How long did it take to do and do you think you could do it alone. I have experience with lifts and wrenching but some things just take two people.

Re: Edge Suspention

I know my V codes right off my friends 2002 F250 crewcab,the X codes I believe are 450's or 550's.

The ride didn't "stiffen up" instead may have firmed up a little if any but not much noticable, okay maybe it feels like I got a better sway bar up front

To my direct knowledge of the Edge leveing kits, they're actually a mini spring pack as was on display at SDHQ and they're easy to install right between the axle and stock spring pack. Mike "CHAW" has them on his 2002 Excursion here in Rowlett TX,Darren "HYDE" assisted him with installing them.

The Edge mini spring pack runs about $225 if I last recall and should include everything to complete the job.

Re: Edge Suspention

Thanks, I have ruined many a truck with big lifts. These are daily drivers and you can get in trouble if some parking atendant takes it into a parking ramp I am getting tired of the stock height. Thanks for all your help, I may be posting pics soon on my new look.

Re: Edge Suspention

I did extensive research on this same thing before I installed the X codes on mine. The problem with shackles is that they allow the stock springs to hyperextend past the point they are designed to before hitting the bump stop. Any information that X or V code springs will ruin the ride is completely false. I did not tell my wife they were installed, and she asked on the first drive why the truck was riding so much better. The stock springs allow the bump stops to hit constantly, 100% of the time when braking. Go stick a wad of Play Doh on the spring and drive a few miles.

Re: Edge Suspention

I can't find my paperwork but I think I paid about $130 each at my dealer. I paid a local mechanic to install my springs, bump stops and all four shocks. It took him about 2.5 to 3 hours but I know he fought with it for a while before he figured out he had to pull the bumper to get the front bolt out of the spring. I think you'll at least need a helper for pulling and replacing the bumper.

Re: Edge Suspention

Thanks, I was not going to use the shakles for reasons close to that. I am heading to the dealer on Monday to see what is up. I don't even want to ask about part numbers it has been beaten to death so many times.

Re: Edge Suspention

I left the bumper on and just removed the fork looking braces. I later removed the bumper for something else and it would have been easier. Six bolts and it's on the ground. The entire job took about an hour (front and rear) and stands as one of the finest mods I have ever done. It's sad when you have to use factory parts to make a model the way it should have been in the first place.
