Electric problem

Seems the wifes X has developed an electric problem. On two occassions over the past couple of weeks when she has been driving it, radio, turn signals, and wipers went out. The fasten seat belt light and ABS light both came on. Cut the truck off and restart and everything is alright. It is sitting at the dealer. They said they can read the codes " can see what has happened", but have no clue to the cause. They have said they have done all their willing to do right now come and get it and if it keeps happening, bring it back ! I'm a little worried because both times it has happened it has been during the day, do not know if it does anything to the running or head lights when it freaks. Wife leaves about 5:30am to go to work, and the last thing she needs is to be running 70 on the hwy by herself and loose her lights.

Any ideals ? Any thing I could ask the dealer to address while they still have it?

Thanks,

Sounds like you have some serious electrical gremilins. Just a thought... Have you had the wiper motor recall done? You mention that the wipers cut out. If your wiper motor is on the verge of failing, it could play havoc with the computer. Note: This recall is a fire hazzard!

Cheers,

Rob

Re: Electric problem

Where do I stand ?
Back in Sept. Dealer kept the truck for 16 days, attemting to fix this problem. They were able to read the codes that were tripped, but unable to find the problem. After I notified Ford of the problem, the dealer made an attempt to repair. Replaced the acceclator module ? Got the truck back and things seemed to be alright. Happened again on Oct.16, this time I was driving, lost the following:

Blinkers
Wipers
overhead computer
A/C Heat
Radio
cruise
reverse sensors
ABS light came on
Air Bag light came on

Things that did work:
headlights
running lights
interior lights

Turn the truck off and restart, everything is fine. The items that seem to go out are (iginition sensative) meaning truck has got to be ON for them to work, this make any sense?

Took it to a different dealer that Saturday morning. They "worked" on it for 2 hours. Drove it around and said all fixed ! " A current T.S.B has told us of this problem, loose battery terminals" What ! I sat there and looked at the service tech and asked, "you mean to tell me that the cables are loose enough on this truck to cause this problem only 3 times in the last four months". Like a dummy, I bought into it, I had not checked recent TSB in a while. Well I checked and can not find any.
Wife informed me it happened again Sunday on her way to the store.

Have another appointment for Tuesday to address the problem. I have written out what happens, and what has been done to date, anything else I can or should do ?

Thanks

Re: Electric problem

I don't know if this is going to help you Gary, but when I was installing my gages I found some loose ground wires. If you remove the plastic panel that covers the fuse panel below the steering column, look for a steel bulkhead on the right hand side. This bulkhead is on the left side of the radio and heater controls. I found two black ground wires where the ground screw was cross threaded, and not run down all the way to secure the wires to the bulkhead. I know at least my radio was cutting out, but the wires are too heavy to just power the radio. Good luck.

Re: Electric problem

That is a safety problem. Tell your dealer so and call Ford. Tell them that if they cannot fix it you are going to report it to
