Hey guys I'm putting in a new water pump, and want to put the correct coolant (anti-freeze) in the truck. What's the best for the truck, and long life for the water pump????

thanks

You might try the owner's guide. If you do not have one you can download one here;

diesel excursion coolant?

owners manual 9 years old... engine is modified and new technology is now available.

I want to put the best coolant in my truck, and wonder what exactly that may be?

I chose to use CHEVRON DELO ELC concintrate, the RED stuff. I also did the coolant filter set up from dieselsite.com. at the same time and highly recommend it. It took quite a few flushs to get the sandy grit out of the system.Make sure your rear air heat is on during the running of engine while flushing too. You wont get all the water out of system even with engine plugs pulled so you want to be sure that what is left in is CLEAN DISTILLED water. After the last drain I added 4 gallons of coolant and alittle over 2 gallons of distilled water, remember there is still about a gallon distilled left in the system after drained.

Use a red ELC coolant. Many are available. I used the ELC from Cat (it's on sale in Michigan right now). This type of coolant doesn't require strip testing or adding anything. Mine is good for 300,000 miles, then you can add a charge to it and get another 300,000!

Also, as someone else mentioned, add the dieselsite coolant filter. It's UNREAL how much crap is in your coolant....

I just went with the original green. Somehow checking the coolant levels every oil change makes me feel better. It has worked for me so far.

You could have gone with the Gold but since we also have to test strip it, there would have been no actual gain over the green. IMHO you made a good choice sticking with what it came with.

Gold coolant is recommended for fords, life of gold coolant is around 100,000 miles.
green coolant is supposed to be changed every 30,000.

But gold coolant comes stock
