They do this for emmissions and fuel economy. If you need engine braking, drop it down into 2nd. gear range. These engines are also suposed to cut fuel to the injectors after about 3 seconds of your foot off the accelerator. If you do not hit the brake pedal the t\c kicks off at 38 mph.
