I use my Excursion for work (electrician) when not using my E-350. I have a 14'Haulmark trailer that I have set up as a mobile shop. But sometimes, I don't need to haul that whole rig around, so I just throw a few things in the back of my X. Right now my storage system consists of plastic bins from Wal-Mart and spackle buckets, and I'd like to better organize myself because now that I've had it a few months, I use any excuse to take the X. I've been looking at Pack-Rat Drawer units by Weather Guard. I use them in the van, and they work well. They have a unit that is 39 1/2" wide, 12 3/8" high, and 24" deep. I would mount it all the way rearward, drawers facing the back doors so that when you open the doors, you just pull the drawer out to access your storage. My question is, has anyone used this type unit in an installation like this, and does it interfere with being able to remove the spare tire when needed? Or maybe someone uses something else that I haven't thought of?
Do you have them? If so, how does one get the spare tire out, or even get at it?

Re: Excursion Cargo Area Parts Storage Drawer Units
I contacted TruckVault and they said that the spare stays in the vehicle, and is accessable with the units installed. They added that instructions for same were included with the unit so maybe there's some trick or mod? From the pictures it seems as if that spare is pretty much buried in there.

The rear command consoles do take up just about all the available space in the rear thus the spare comes out, which is why City fleet departments sometimes comes out with the spare when one of the units catches a flat.
Kinda nice the Tahoes/Subs have the spare underneath
Re: Excursion Cargo Area Parts Storage Drawer Units
I have had the Truck Vault on 2 Expeditions and now the Excursion and getting to the spare is no problem. I have the 2 drawer model and it is great.

Re: Excursion Cargo Area Parts Storage Drawer Units
A friend of mine has the PackRat's in the back of his GMC van and lkes them. They are stiff enough to walk on if in the rear of a pickup. As far as the spare is concerned since they are not vehicle speecific it would be up to owner/installer to install as not to block spare tire/jack ect. Adrian Steel has some very nice units similar to the PackRats but they do not have weatherstripped drawers so can only be used in a sport-ute or a van. Again installation without blocking tire access is up to installer.
Looks like the TruckVault's are about the only ones made for close to specific fits. Just get something as 5gal buckets and Rubbermaid (type) containers full of anything get pretty heavy and can be bad news during an accident.

Don't have any pics but I can describe it. Go to the truckvault website and you can see the available ones they make. What I did was take the one I had for the Expedition, remove the hinged flip up on the side and then it slipped perfectly into the Excursion. Third seat gone since day one. Slid it forward flush with the drop for the leg well for middle seat area. That gives me an area about 18 in between the front of the vault and the rear door, a perfect area for a small cooler or a bucket or boards for jacking assist if necessary etc. Open the right door and you have the right drawer exposed. Open both doors to expose the left drawer. If you order one for the X it will come without any mods necessary. Because of the vault and the "stuff" I carry, my X weighs 8900 lbs. I can overhaul my boat trailer on the side of the road. For example, a floor jack fits conveniently in the left drawer. Drawers stay locked and can't even tell they are there if look in window.
