excursion chipped key

has anyone had to replace their key fob and chipped key. Is there anywere else to buy them except from ford. i'm down to only one key now ,lost the other with the fob. i'm told ford will need the truck to reprogram the new key since i don't have two keys. Whats the scoop on this. Also if the truck needs to go back in to get the key programmed does the superchip need to come out to get the correct program. can i get a aftermarket and do it myself.

offtopic -whats up with the search engine on this site. i tried to do a search just for keys and i still get every post that has been posted weather or not it has any thing to do with keys or not. i've noticed this for couple of months now. kinda useless. Re: excursion chipped key

I believe you will need to go to the dealer. Unfortunetly its a rip off. Once I found out you needed two keys I went out and got two more. If you have two you can program them yourself.

Re: excursion chipped key

The transponder keys for the Excursions are available on Ebay,I'm thinking about buying an extra pair to program up.

To have the new key programmed you'll have to go to the dealer as it requires the original two transponder keys to program additional keys so if you only have one you're stuck at the dealer.

I think the cost is like $100 or something in that area.

Contact www.1stfordparts.com or www.fordpartsonline.com to get discount pricing on blank transponder keys if Ebay isn't your first choice

Re: excursion chipped key

I would put the truck back to stock. Yes you need 2 keys to program any others. The first 2 keys programed will be the original keys and any of the others, up 8 in total, will be the copy's. The dealer should charge about 1/2 hour plus the key.

Re: excursion chipped key

I was told around 75 for the key and 45 for the fob at the dealer. Looks like i'll just get it at the dealer since it doesn't look like i'll save enough to hassle getting them off the net.and yes i think I'll bite the bullet and get two just in case there is a next time.

Re: excursion chipped key

I was told by the guys at my local Ford Stealership that it would cost $25 for a key and $75 to program it. But you could buy as many keys as you want and have them all programmed for $75. I only have 1 key so I was going to buy 3 blank keys and get them programmed for a total of $150.

Re: excursion chipped key

The secret is in tipping a good service rep. Mine gave me a new key when I needed it, and a mechanic that I take care of programmed it for nothing. It takes all of about 3 minutes to do it.

Re: excursion chipped key

It actually takes 10 minutes to gain security access to the system if you only have 1 key to start with. Then the programing goes from there. In all cutting the key programing checking the system figure a good 1/2 hour.

Re: excursion chipped key

My new 2004 came with two keys, and I bought three more for $25 each and programmed them myself. According to the dealer, you have to have the two ORIGINAL keys in order to program others. In other words, if you only have one key you'll have to pay the dealer to make you more - the duplicates will not work.

Re: excursion chipped key

I'm dealing with a chipped key on an '04 explorer. The truck had a remote start installed and in doing that they had to put a key in a box in the truck. I am wondering if I can hit the remote start to trick the explorer into thinking the 1st key is in. Starting it with the key I have for the second key. And using a new key as the third. Will this program the third key?

Re: excursion chipped key

OK...here is 2 ideas for you guys!

1...Some and i am sure there is a few Key Smiths that mite have the correct machine to do the Transponder Keys. Try them...sometimes they are cheaper and then sometimes they are not!

2....Find a local REPO Shop...MOST will have the machine to do the Transponder Keys....I know we do!!!
