Excursion comments on quality and reliability

I'm hoping to be able to purchase an Excursion within the next couple of months.

I was hoping all of you previous owners would comment on your experiences with the quality and reliability of your diesel Excursions.

What do you like best and least about your vehicle?

All opinions are welcome....

Regards;

David

Re: Excursion comments on quality and reliability

This is my second Excursion and the best things I like are the fuel mileage and range . It also tows my 41 ft TT like it's not even there. I hate the 9,200 Lb GVWR sticker when the E350 with much less power , lower axle ratings and tires has a higher GVWR sticker. They should have a F350 Crew Wagon with 9,900 lb GVWR. And by far the least thing I like about it is Ford is dumping it. Re: Excursion comments on quality and reliability

23,000 trouble free miles. I filled the tank the other day and the overhead said 722 miles to empty. At 20,000 it really picked up. I love looking down on Suburbans.

Re: Excursion comments on quality and reliability

I replaced the waterpump at 42,000 miles...under warranty. Replaced the old Firestones at 55,000.

As far as economy, the best tank to date was a trip from Houston to Jacksonville. A little over 800 miles on a tank of fuel.

Good luck!

Re: Excursion comments on quality and reliability

I've got 23,000 miles on mine and it's been totally reliable. I've only had to replace one way back vent motor and the fuel pump. All done under warranty. No other problems. The only time its in the shop is for aftermarket upgrades.

I f-'ing love this thing.

Re: Excursion comments on quality and reliability

Thank you for the links. I hadn't thought about the tax breaks.

I was layed off from Dell Computer back in March and have been flirting with the idea of starting my own company.

More fuel for the fire...

David

Re: Excursion comments on quality and reliability

We just picked ours up, 189 miles as of today, and I can say Fords quality has gotten pretty good. I completely went through the X from bumper to bumper and found:
1. Two rubberbands
2. Three loose pieces of tape
3. A vacuum line routed too close to the turbo routing.
That is it. No loose interior screws, no overlapping interior pieces, nothing. One can argue that for $50K that better be the case, but rememeber, people are still putting these things together. Both the wife and I are VERY happy with the purchase. And so are the kids, like was mentioned above, the best vehicle for traveling out there.

Re: Excursion comments on quality and reliability

What we like best about it is it's a True Full size SUV/Truck with a V8 Diesel engine,we have two sons 2&4 with room for 3 more and plenty of room for what else we have to take with us on short and distant Excursions

Things I initially didn't like about the 2002 was it came with the sorry D code front springs and no rear sway bar(which our 99.5 F250 did),the sliding roof racks had to come off due to they can scratch the rooftop paint surface, but they can be re-arch'd to get better clearance tho.

For trucks(yes I call it a truck)I like the manual transmission that wasn't an option but I was able to live with that as the Turbo Boost pressure hangs better with the auto's

After our nays have been presented I give the Excursion a 10 outta 10

Outside of the adjustable pedal recall,it's been very reliable and gets better mileage & performance than our old F250

Re: Excursion comments on quality and reliability

64k on my X and the only problem I have had is the CPM going out.

It pulls like a dream, gets fuel mileage that others find hard to believe and gets me 700 miles between fill ups. The power this thing puts out for the size it is still amazes me.

I haul my kids all over the place, since we live outside the city, and I feel safer than I did hauling them around in a regular car. When a snow storm hit last year, I was driving around when lots of others were stuck. It handles great and has much more room than the Suburban. And yes, I can park it just fine in just about any spot. Backing has never been an issue for me either.

After buying our '97 F250, we said we would not buy another gas powered vehicle and now I won't give up my X for anything, other than another X.

Re: Excursion comments on quality and reliability

I love the "X" and this is after owning 3 Burbs but this is my first diesel.
32K replaced CPS
75K starter
85K left front wheel bearing.
The "X" now has 90K+ and has averged 15 MPG including all the towing for about 10K
Would I buy another PSD "X" YES

Re: Excursion comments on quality and reliability

David I'll also have to note a statement my wife made last Friday about her Excursion, she swears that it's on Steroids!!

It's definitely not the same Excursion we took delivery on in June 2002

Re: Excursion comments on quality and reliability

We have 48,000 miles on ours. So far so good. Had some minor repairs (new batteries and rotors) done before the warranty expired. I think the overall quality is good, especially for the first year out. I recently rode in my co-workers 03 Suburban on a business trip and although it rode nice, I thought the quality of the interior was cheap looking. Also I couldn't believe how small the storage area behind the third seat was. Could barely fit his clubs, 3 small suitcases and a tackle box. And that is with the spare underneath the vehicle! I know for a fact that I can put in my wifes' clubs, my fishing gear and luggage for my wife, myself and three kids....and yes I'm able to look out of the back window.
