I saw a Burgandy X with Cummins badges on I94 in MI, it was Sunday night after the NASCAR race, we were stuck in traffic and I passed it. Anyone know this truck, I gave mine a good blip and left a nice big black puff of smoke I was in the Grey X with the SNOGOER plate. Was this for real? Can you put the 5.9 in an X?

If you can put a Cummins in an F250 or F350 (which several people have), you can put it in an Excursion.
In fact, that's not a bad idea if you could find an X with a blown 5.4L engine in it (shouln't be hard to find...hehehe). Buy it cheap, put in the Cummins with dual turbos and 4" exhaust and downpipe. It'd be a smokin' truck.
When my powerstroke blows up, a cummins will take its place. The powerstroke sure does take a beating, but I'll keep driving it like I stole it

What I'd like to have is the Cummins engine with an Allison 5 speed Transmission. You can keep that lousy 4 speed that Dodge matches with their diesel platform. I've seen to many of those blow up.

I could not hear it, mine is too loud I know what you mean though, they are a clanky engine. I am sure with the right money and resources you could put a Turbine in one of these I have seen CATs also. I thought someone here might know. Now last night I saw a 4x2 with a 4" lift from IL, not bad looking either until you look for the front pig.

I recall a guy on here in the parts for sale section selling a 7.3 motor out of an Excursion that had 50K miles on it as he was planning to plant a 5.9 in it.
With all the little issues with the second gen 5.9 I'll stick with the 7.3! Or wait an injector pump is a BIG problem!!!
It does seem like a huge task for such a little gain, unless your PSD blew up and you had a 5.9 laying around, the fabricating needed to change everything over must be a month long project. My 7.3 has 78,000 miles and I have not had one hicup or one single problem. Now the reverse sensors and the door locks are another problem, going in on Monday to a local elecrtical shop that says they can fix it.

I'm doing much better than 90% of the guys with the 5.9's.
[/ QUOTE ]
Better than 90%, I doubt it. Now I am not going to go on and on about it but the cummins and the powerstroke are both good motors. I own one of each. I know plenty guys that have never had a problem with either, I also know guys that would not use either for a boat anchor.
What that said, If I had a bunch of extra $$ I would have a twin turbo cummins in my X and in my dodge.

Im putting a 5.9 into my F350 next week, and I can assure you it wont be a "month long" job. My truck has 210k on it, and the motor still runs ok, but I came across a good deal on a 5.9, so I figured why not. With a 12V 5.9 (mechanical injection) everything is very simple to hook up. All of the accessories (AC, PS, ALT) can be made to fit on the Cummins very easily. A bellhousing adapter from FordCummins will allow the motor to bolt right up to a Ford trans. A cruise control servo out of a gas powered SD and 4 wires into the PCM allow the cruise control to still work flawlessly. The sending units out of the Ford truck, placed in the Cummins will allow all of the dash gauges to work correctly, and a 50 dollar tach sensor and tach adapter from Ford Cummins will make the tach work correctly as well. If you have the motor, and do the labor yourself, the total cost in parts should be around $3000, thats including misc. shop supplies. I plan on getting the swap done in 5 or 6 days, and that includes pulling the PSD out.

There's one in the forsale section right now....He had it on Ebay for a while and I guess he never sold it. He put a 24v Cummins in it with a 12v conversion head and pump....He removed the guage cluster out of the dash and put a piece of polished alluminum in it's place with some autometer guages...I belive he said Enterprise Engine did the motor ...He had photos on Ebay with specifics.
If my wifes EX's PSD would die I would go the 03-05 Cummins route...She would kill me if I put a noisy earlier one in it!
