Dissapointing isn't it . I had heard a little speculation on what ford 'might' do. the Excursion goes away and Ford takes their top seller and top safety rated Expedition and drops diesel (ULE version - maybe a 6.0) into it and gives it a stretch to solve the wheel base problem and lack of storage behind the third row seat. It is now a light F250 rather than the heavy F250 of the X (falls into a different class). Ford then makes the Explorer a little roomier for those that already think the Expedition is too big. Who really knows? I personaly don't think Ford will give up the best and biggest in class that the X provides today. A new look and name maybe. It seems "late 2004" means there will be at least a partial 'O5 model year. Two guys from my dealership also said there would be an '05 model year. I guess we'll have to wait and see.

Not True
I just read in my newspaper (San Diego Union Tribune) that they may continue to build them. Here is a quote from Steve Lyons, president of Ford Division. "Excursion production was to end next August, but some thought is being given to continuing it. We're selling 2,000 a month, but even if sales go to 1,000, we could keep it in the lineup. We're not being forced to drop it."

Well who knows, I just might get a third Excursion if this is true.
This isn't the first time they have dropped a full size SUV. Ford made one in the early 1980's, but when they didn't get the Gov. contract, they dropped the line. I don't remember what they called it. There was a dealer in the Twin Cities that got 6 of them after they dropped them. I don't think they ever got to the dealers for sale to the public before the decision was made to drop the line. Only certain dealers in large markets got what was left over.

Wasn't it called the Centurion or somthing like that
And no blake I'm not thinking "SKI Centurion"

Centurion, an aftermarket company who does all sorts of truck conversions and upfits, did for a while in the mid 90's take F350 crewcabs and turn them into a Suburban-like vehicle. So they had Centurion badges, but that was just the name of the company that did the conversion, not the name of the vehicle.

I believe Avanti has cancelled the XUV project......I think I read this a couple months ago somewhere (maybe here). I know they went through some legal crap with GM because of the XUV's similar appearance to the Hummer H2. Avanti then made some changes and soon after that announced they were not going any further with the project.
