Excursion discontinued in 2004

I've seen some rumors floating around some of the boards that the Excursion might be around longer than the 2004 model year. I decided to contact Ford directly and here is the email response that I received.

Dear David,

Thank you for your message of 10/17/03 regarding the Ford Excursion. We appreciate the time you have taken to inquire about the future of the
Ford Excursion.

Thank you for you interest in the the Ford Excursion. Excursion is a
heavy-duty sport utility vehicle that is true to Ford truck heritage.
Excursion provides outstanding capability to do it all, with everyone
and everything. It delivers an excellent value with a consistent

David, Ford will discontinue production of the Ford Excursion in late
2004. This was purely a business decision. Ford is committed to, and
will continue to support, Excursion through 2004. Please be advised
however, Ford will continue to honor all warranty issues as they relate
to the warranty offered on their vehicle. In addition, Ford will
continue to support dealers and service centers with a full inventory of replacement parts for current/future units.

The Sales Department of your local dealership is in the best position to advise you of vehicle pricing or availability. Ford and Lincoln-Mercury dealerships are independently owned and operated and as such, set their

Re: Excursion discontinued in 2004

I heard the TBird was gone after 2004 also. Don't remeber where (not really interested).
Maybe when they see the sales #s for the '04 Xs, they will pull their heads out and look at the sunshine and like it!!!!!!
Later...

Re: Excursion discontinued in 2004

Dissapointing isn't it . I had heard a little speculation on what ford 'might' do. the Excursion goes away and Ford takes their top seller and top safety rated Expedition and drops diesel (ULE version - maybe a 6.0) into it and gives it a stretch to solve the wheel base problem and lack of storage behind the third row seat. It is now a light F250 rather than the heavy F250 of the X (falls into a different class). Ford then makes the Explorer a little roomier for those that already think the Expedition is too big. Who really knows? I personaly don't think Ford will give up the best and biggest in class that the X provides today. A new look and name maybe. Re: Excursion discontinued in 2004

It seems "late 2004" means there will be at least a partial 'O5 model year. Two guys from my dealership also said there would be an '05 model year. I guess we'll have to wait and see.

Re: Excursion discontinued in 2004

Not True
I just read in my newspaper (San Diego Union Tribune) that they may continue to build them. Here is a quote from Steve Lyons, president of Ford Division. "Excursion production was to end next August, but some thought is being given to continuing it. We're selling 2,000 a month, but even if sales go to 1,000, we could keep it in the lineup. We're not being forced to drop it."

Re: Excursion discontinued in 2004

FYI

This isn't the first time they have dropped a full size SUV. Ford made one in the early 1980's, but when they didn't get the Gov. contract, they dropped the line. I don't remember what they called it. There was a dealer in the Twin Cities that got 6 of them after they dropped them. I don't think they ever got to the dealers for sale to the public before the decision was made to drop the line. Only certain dealers in large markets got what was left over.

Re: Excursion discontinued in 2004

Centurion, an aftermarket company who does all sorts of truck conversions and upfits, did for a while in the mid 90's take F350 crewcabs and turn them into a Suburban-like vehicle. So they had Centurion badges, but that was just the name of the company that did the conversion, not the name of the vehicle.

Re: Excursion discontinued in 2004

I believe Avanti has cancelled the XUV project......I think I read this a couple months ago somewhere (maybe here). I know they went through some legal crap with GM because of the XUV's similar appearance to the Hummer H2. Avanti then made some changes and soon after that announced they were not going any further with the project.
