Re: The Excursion has a 44 gal Tank
All of the newer PowerStrokes do this warming of fuel to a certain extent, because the fuel filter sitting in the valley, is warmed by the engine coolant (whether from a running engine or the 120 volt engine heater) and the excess warmed fuel is returned to the fuel tank by the pressue relief bypass on the fuel filter housing. There is a special valve arrangement in the fuel tank that sends this warmed up fuel back to the fuel pump until the fuel has reached a certain temperature, then the returned fuel is released to the tank, and cooler fuel from the tank is send to the fuel pump.
By the way, the coolant line that is rerouted is the coolant return line between the Y after the front and rear heater cores and before the water pump. The only time there is no flow in this coolant line is when the heater/AC control on the dashboard is set on Max A/C.
