Sometime ago I posted a comment about arrogant Hummer owners and how some of them think they have the king of SUV's. Well, I've challenged a handful of them to a tug-o-war but haven't had any takers yet.
Take a look at this video on this website
(copy and paste into your browser). Turn up the volume because the audio will crack you up. Then look at the front end of the Hummer as it negotiates some pretty tame terrain!
you know, just because the wife lets you use the station wagon for the weekend, doesnt mean you can abuse it. But if you decide to stretch its legs, make sure you take out the heavy heavy load of groceries in the back..
let this be lesson to all...H2'S ARE STRICTLY PAVEMENT POUNDING, GROCERY GETTING, OVER PRICED, STATUS BUILDING (OR DESTROYER, DEPENDING WHO YOU ARE), SUIT AND TIE CHEVY'S! and we all know chevy's cause cancer!
A buddy traded his X for an H2 ... and has regretted it ever since. The H2 tows MUCH less, hauls fewer people & cargo, gets worse MPG, but costs more.
Always said, the H2 was waaaaayyyy to much weight on a 1/2 ton base.
Dealer Told me the other day " But the Expy is getting longer and will have a Diesel"
My Responce was "I will NEVER own another 1/2 ton full size truck"
Had a E150 Van used it like a 3/4 went 192K and still going but I went through 3 rear axles.
You know what, they are a typical nice chevy ride...thats about it. I saw this video and laughed my butt off. Those H2's are not meant to be taken off road. Just because it says hummer doesnt mean its military bound. oh well...good post blake! enjoyed it much!
I don't know much about the Hummer's but if they share the same front end component's that the Chevy trucks use it doesn't surprised me that the tie rod broke. The inner tie rod the Chevy trucks use looks like it came off a mid sized sedan. I have heard lots of the Chevy's are snapping them. Maybe thats how they get their trucks to ride like a car.

The tie rods are not that strong. The H2's (they are not real Hummers and I don't wanna refer to them as such!)use a 3/4 tons drivetrains. Not bad for slight things. I can't beleive he blew his tie rod on that week stuff. The rear-end in those H2 is a 14 bolt and that is a good rear-end. I've had numerous Chevy 4x4's The front IFS is weak...... that is one of the reasons why I drive a solid axle X.
Though I have seen a Crew Cab Duramax 4wd sitting on 38's run a 8.7 in the 1/8 of a mile!! Then on his next run he pulled up lame ad I knew exactly why. Blew a CV joint!!
The original hummer is a nice truck but the H2 is just a different body on a Yukon chassis. I will stick with the X and would have bought a second one in a year and half if Ford had been intelligent enough to continue production...
I saw a D-max pick-up do that on the starting line of a 1/4 mile. It's a weakness that is relatively easy to eliminate, but they should build them better since it wouldn't cost much more.

These weekend "hum-daaaa :-O" warriors. They just don't get it. When one just doesn't "get it" no one can explain it to him. You just have to sit back and let them learn it on their own. Laughing your butt off in the process is pretty fun too.
Hummer, no, "Hum-fer-get-it".
Joke:
How many Hum-daaas does it take to screw in a light bulb?
Answer: One. It only takes one Hum-daaa to screw things up.

Although I agree with many of the posts here on the H2 - and wouldn't personally consider owning one - my opinion of them changed last summer after attending an off-road event where a number of them were represented. They flat-out EMBARASSED every Ford, Dodge, and other GM product there. One of them was driven by a older gentleman who had never been off-road before. His was the only one to have a problem - TWO broken tie rods at the top of a hill. Otherwise, I saw them take many hills with ease that none of the other vehicles could manage. I also saw one go through a rock course - let's just say that if someone would have bet me before hand, I would have lost a lot of money. They are a much more capable vehicle than most people think they are - at least before they get lowered and blinged :-)
Now, if I'm hauling, towing, or carrying on flat ground in ANY kind of weather I'll take the 'X' every time. I guess that's why I own one.

Yes,that is the way he said it.I forgot to mention the $5000 he spent on the Puff Daddy bling-bling for the vehicle.

What were the setups on all the vehicles. A posi or a good limited slip can make all the difference on a hill climb. I had a Dodge that couldnt make it up a hill following my brother in laws Dodge, mine was a 95 3/4 ton and his was a 91 1 ton srw, he had to stop and pull me to the top. it was extremely steep, scared the heck out of me to have to get out and chain it up, thought it was going to slide away. H2s are well known to break parts on the trails. The dimensions are designed for off roading but the chassis isnt. Wheelbase is almost as long as the vehicle so the bumpers dont drag, wide stance for better stability. Hummer should have went with a Ford or Dodge Chassis if they really wanted to make it more durable.
