Excursion -Squeaking under the hood

2000 7.3 PSD Excursion. Sounds like a pulley. I changed the pulleys on the tensioner. I had to change the pulleys because the nut is stripped for the tensioner assembly. (That's another story) Checked all the other pulleys and they feel good. No movement in/out or up/down. It sounds like its coming from either the A/C or the idler pulley. The A/C spins freely but the idler is not. It wont even make a full revolution spinning it by hand. Neither of them squeak when the belt is off.

Idler pulley? Can the pulley on the A/C be swapped out?

Well it looks like the A/C clutch or compressor. New alternator (two weeks ago), tension pulleys (today), and idler pulley (5 minutes ago) and she still squeaking.

Can the Clutch be pulled and replaced or should I just bite the bullet and replace the entire compressor? What brand?

BTW, I have 280K on the princess and she is running strong with minimal hiccups as expected.

mine does this until it is warm, its the belt. I had a buildup of rubber on the pullys that just go for a ride, not the splined ones, it seemed to be the problem. A quick way to know is to run a bit of soap on the belt, even spit works and it should stop. On the soap just lightly touch the belt, too much may make it slip. They make a belt dressing but this is free. My belt went to 200k and then I replaced it, not too bad but a rad hose has to come off at the top (some don't but most I have seen do). My tensioner jumps and bounces until it warms the belt up. And chirps a little.

Thanks for the heads up on the belt but I dont think that's it. I changed the belt about 5k miles ago so its worn in pretty well. This is definitly a mechanical sound. Although it does go away when the motor is warm. It sounds like the A/C pulley or clutch. A/C and heat are still working fine. I'll dig a little deeper after the holidays.

Merry Christmas to all!
