Dunno about that one. I had no CAT in the Excursion.

The earlier Excursions didn't have cats. The computer controls of the system kept the exhaust clean enough to get by without one.

I have a 2000. Don't know when Ford started adding cats.

They added a cat with the 6.0 in 2003. I have a Banks 4" turbo back system with a 3.5" down pipe, the fit and sound is great. I need to find someone near me to exchange a stock system for my Banks before I give this back to Ford. My wife threw my stock system away a couple years ago because she was tired of looking at it, great huh?

I will probably put a Banks on my next truck, unfortunately all the systems for the Dmax's are "down pipe back" and not turbo back so you have to spend another $200 on a 3" down pipe!

Well this will mess things up. Mine does not have a cat because it was a oregon vehicle and they did not req it. The only thing I can come up with was mine was installed a local shop noted for doing Outstanding work. Maybe they know something...Just a thought

So who was the "outstanding" shop. I have seen some of the "outstanding work" locally on a rack at a friends shop.... and some of it's not all the great. I wonder what will happen with us when CA finally figures out how to smog the Diesels eh? Does your rig at least have a CA Emissions legal sticker under the hood?

There was only one guy in town that I used for all my exhaust work, and it sounds like he is hanging up his exhaust installation hat

I have the same magnaflow too and love it, you can usually get a used one on ebay or cragislist. I wanted a valid warranty so I got it here. Magnaflow 49306. Also some of the forum sponsors selling magnaflow usually have a sale going on. Either way its a great cat, sounds great, and very easy to install.

I keep hearing about Walker BTM's "installed" for $75 or $100. Where are you guys getting this work done at? I've called 2 places here in the north Austin area and both quoted me significantly more than that. If I could find a place to get a BTM installed for $75 I'd go do it tomorrow.

What does it take to install a BTM? Cut off the old one and stick on the new one with a couple of clamps and it costs that much?

The inlet pipe and outlet pipe are not lined up on the stock muffler and the BTM is a straight thru design, so there is a little "extra" that has to be done on the install from my understanding, although I don't think it's substantial.

I would also want it welded vs. clamped.

http://www.dfuser.com/Install%20Guid...on%20Guide.pdf Not sure how much those guys make an hour but it doesn't look to be that difficult for a muffler shop. In your driveway, probably a good 3-4 hrs at best.

I wouldn't. Clamped it can move a little Welded it has no flex.

Restriction: The MBRP have 4" downpipes not 3.5 so you do get a good reduction in back pressure and lower EGT than a Walker or even Muffler delete.

Droning sound: With the units that have a straight thru muffler like the MBRP and others the direction you mount the muffler will effect this. The official way to install(which is for outside sound reduction) is with the scallop fins or cuts facing into the flow or toward the front of the vehicle. This way they cause disruption and reduction in the sound at the tail pipe. Unfortunately this way which seemingly causes large flow disruptions ends up giving may that drone ( or in cab sound increase)sound at cruising speeds. Turn the muffler around so the fins /scallops face downstream or toward the tail pipe. You will get very little disruption which will cause slightly louder sound outside at the tail pipe but will in most cases greatly reduce or eliminate any droning in the cab. As someone has already said the X being a SUV body it is mroe prone to hearing droning if it does exsist. This is because the muffler is directly under the Cab and why the less you cause flow disruptions ( to a point) the better it will be in the cab. Hope this makes some sense and I didn't bungle it to bad trying to explain what I mean.
