Exhaust Dual's

Does anyone make a dual tailpipe exhaust setup for the X? I read that the MBRP cool duals wont fit on Excursions because of the fuel tank being in the way, but cant find any info on any other brand making a dual setup fitting the X.

I've only seen one and it was in pictures and it was custom. I can't imagine how it was run.

Re: Exhaust Dual's

I sent som emails out and I was told by RPMoutlet that the 4 inch dual motoblue setup will work you just have to let them know when ordering. Magnaflow has one also. I would try one of them out but had to spend the exhaust money on the dog's vet bill Once I do Ill let everyone know how it worked and get some pictures.

Re: Exhaust Dual's

Be careful with RPM Outlet. Their 'Moto Blue' systems are really Diamond Eye systems. Not bad for aluminized, but, the duals will not fit your Excursion, Neither will Magnaflows or MBRP. We stock all three brands and can safely tell you they won't fit. JS.

Re: Exhaust Dual's

No problem.

If you are looking for a stainless system, we have a killer deal going on Magnaflow. Shoot me a PM and I will get you a price. JS.

Re: Exhaust Dual's

On my Y2K X I had a local muffler shop make one for me. Cat back system about two weeks after I bought it. Been on there for 5+ years and no problems. Stainless tips are angled out behind the rear tires. the rest of the system is the aluminized steel and all welded together. You might check your local muffler shops. I have no idea what it would cost now but back then it cost me less than 300 bucks and that is with two 18" bullet mufflers and the same size pipe as what comes on the truck.

Good luck

Re: Exhaust Dual's

Thanks all, I'm selling my 96 Ram and have decided to use some of the money from it to upgrade my exhaust and go with a chip or programmer. That gives me some time to decide what route to go.
I have heard the MBRP and was wondering how quiet the magnaflow is compared to it. I would like a louder system but dont want all the flutter that a straight pipe has.

Re: Exhaust Dual's

While we have the topic I will go ahead and ask my questions also.

What is the real difference in the material of these exhaust systems...some will last only a few years or others will last one million miles? Is this real important?

Name brand to name brand they all look to be the same...are they? Is there one brand that stands out above the rest as far as design and install?

And I guess the biggest decision....turbo back or cat back? What are the pros/cons? Turbo back seems to be the way to go but you would have more volume where as a cat back is not as loud but a bottleneck preformance wise.

Re: Exhaust Dual's

BenBone and Big Daddy Tank,

The materials the systems are made from to make a big difference in how long they will last, also makes a big diff as to where you live and the winter weather you have too!

Aluminized, it's a step down from the stock material that is 409 stainless. It'll last well in the non salty regions for most folks. $09 is just like the stock material, it'll get brown.gray and get spots on it fairly fast but holds up for most folks well. The exception is those that are in the salty north areas. 409 is also a magnetic stainless while 304 is non magnetic. 304 has a lot of nickel and chromium in it that makes it keep its shine and corrosion proof for all practical standards.

Systems can and in a lot of cases are different no matter what the material it is built from. As an example we sell 30-40 mufflers each month to folks that have purchased one of the "house brand" systems at a 300.00 dollar price range. Most of those system have NO packing in the muffler, which makes it a restriction for one thing and for another it tends to sound real good for a few weeks then you get tired of the sound when you're on the phone etc. Then there is the muffler that has packing but it's not packed tight, and it's low temp material and it goes away in 3-5000 miles, then you're back to the same deal, just a little later in time. Now add in the cost of the no name system plus the cost of a second muffler and you're over the 350.00 that we sell an aluminized systems for to start with. Not to mention the hassle of reinstalling a second muffler.

Now be sure to look at the bend radius, it's a lot easier to bend hard angles then smooth flowing ones. The low priced systems tend to have sharper hard bends, while ones like ours use at least a 5 if not a 5.75 inch radius in the bends. Better flowing and fits better too.

Finally look at the clamps, or should I say the clamp/hangers. The top notch systems welded hangers wherever possible, just like the OEM's do. It fits better is more corrosion proof and just looks nicer too. Every systems I know of has one or two clamp on hangers because otherwise it would require 10 different systems for each body vs bed vs cab size etc. But you want to stay away from clamp on hangers as much as possible for strength and looks. That's why the OEM's use them, the factory system has a 100,000 mile warranty on it if the vehicle has a cat in it (the cat forward portion anyway) and believe me they do not want to replace it, that's why they use 409 stainless and welded hangers.

As far as duals if yuo go with less than 4.0 inchs for the whole system you'll end up with some restriction. I have had a lot of folks call and realize the EX won't accept duals. They get a muffler shop to build them some from 3 inch (usually the largest a muffler shop can bend, and usually they can't bend mandrel either) aluminized or SS and then they have higher EGT's that they want, plus the muffler generally used at a muffler shop is "gas" desgined and just doesn't work well with the CFM requirements of a diesel.

Call us if you have any questions etc.

Re: Exhaust Dual's

We are down to 5 Premium Magnaflow 436 stainless systems for 7.3 Excursions, lifetime warranty, 5" tip welded on, for around the price of a 409 system.

These were a special purchase from Magnaflow, so we are passing on the savings. JS.
