The rear system is totally a re-circulation system

Problem is not in your rear AC/Heat system you have exhaust coming in the rear doors or from under the truck.

A check for any exhaust leaks.
B check all door, glass and widow frame seals

Has the vehicle been in a wreak?

Factory exhaust or new system?

Also give us a clue as to your vehicle and equipment/mods.

Well, bought this one used. The po added 4" exhaust (turbo back). 4" intake, (Napa 6637 filter). I am not sure of anything else. All seals look good around doors and windows. The most 'black' onthe headliner is around the roof vents.

Look for black soot on your firewall, behind the turbo. Maybe you have an exhuast leak that is somehow getting into your fresh air intake at the cowl and then into the cab?

Is it soot or maybe dirt/lint? Like how your ceiling fan will collects dust, even while its spinning.

Probably Up pipe leaks. Get a flashlight and look where the up pipes go into the Y connector that is attached to the back of the turbo. Also look where the up pipes meet the rear of the exhaust manifolds. Look for soot at those connections and on the firewall.

The donut gaskets leak. If you replace them they are likely to leak again. I am in the middle of installing DI's one piece bellowed up pipes. They are pricey but they will never leak. The turbo has to come off and the Down pipe has to come out to get them in.
