I need some help and advice on the Extended Warranty for a PSD Ex. I am just about ready to order it and I kind of feel that I am wasting my money in purchasing an EW since the Engine and Drivetrain are covered for 5 years. The dealer told me that they prorate the warranty since the engine and drivetrain are covered for 5 years. I have had extended warranty's in the past and have found them to be less then useful.
Just my .02 - Most major problems resulting from a manufacturing defect are going to make themselves known in the first year or two. After that, things can and do go wrong, but the incidence is much lower.
Having said that - who among us has a crystal ball? Comes down to doing what you are comfortable with. Good luck with it.
Warranty Gold was rated as 4 star, and the longest around, also mechanics love working with them. http://www.warrantygold.com/
They have a 5 year / 150,000 from the day you sign up , which you should do three years from now at the end of your dealer warranty. Also they have a 7 year 100,000.
If I can find the ratings site I will forward that over.
$1400 for an extended warranty is nothing compared to the price of the vehicle and the cost in servicing one.
For those of you who haven't already found out, fixing components on a diesel truck is more expensive. I'm not sure what all is covered in some of these extended warranties, but I didn't have one when I bought my '97 F250 powerstroke. The starter went bad. The cost on the start was $500. Not cheap, and would have paid for 1/3 of the warranty at that point.
Just something to keep in mind.

RVTRAVELER The Ford warrenty is 36 months or 36,000 mile bumper to bumper . The engine is then covered for the rest of the time up to 100,000 miles or 5 years which ever comes first. There is a $100.00 deductible after the 36,000 mile or 36 month warranty ends.
Like UTAH said do what you are comfortable with.
s and the best .

When I purchased my X the finance guy said I could not get the .9% financing unless I purchased the EW. I caused a big scene in the dealership and they gave me the .9% with no EW. I am in the process of looking for a good EW. There are plenty to choose from and cheaper than from the dealership.
If you want to get a Ford warranty, shop around as the price will vary from dealer to dealer by as much as $1000 (or more) from my previous experience.
Here's a Ford dealership which posts their prices on their Ford warranties on the web for you to see. From what I recall, their prices are best you'll find for a true Ford warranty. Here's the link to check out. http://sunrisefordfleet.com/esp1.htm
When we bought our new 1997 F250, we bought the extended warranty or so we thought. The first time we went to use it while out of town we were told that the repair was not covered, but if we would have had a true Ford warranty, it would have been covered. We thought we had purchased a Ford ESP, but in fact the Ford dealer sold us a warranty from GE Capital instead. Too bad we didn't realize this earlier as we had to pay thousands for various engie repairs. Later on we began to have a serious clunk in our tranmission. We thought we were covered by our extended warranty, but were shocked as could be when we were told we had to pay the bill which again was thousands of dollars. GE capitol flew their tranmission expert from TX to CA to look at our problem and determined it was not covered under their warranty. Even the people at the Ford dealership said this guy was an idiot and it would have been covered if we only had purchased the Ford warranty instead. After a few weeks of being in the shop, we paid the bill and got our truck back.
Fortunately the transmission which was done by Ford came with a warranty because it was replaced 2 more times after that, but under the Ford warranty and now the tranmission is begining to have problems again, but it's out of warranty now.
The GE Capitol warranty did end up paying for itself as this vehicle is now on it's 5th rear end and various sensors have been replaced under the warranty as well.
The extended warranty didn't cover our stereo problems because we had a non-Ford CD player connected to it and they said that was the cause of the stereo failure (which was a crock of #!@^. We argued this with our dealer & the warranty company because we bought the truck with the CD player installed from the dealer which we thought was a Ford CD player, but they didn't give a crud and even told us the warranty we bought was a piece of junk which was yet another slap in the face.
I'm not saying all non Ford warranties are bad, but we sure had some terrible experiences with GE Capitol and our Ford dealer. On the 3rd rear end, I asked to be present to see them rebuild it, but when I started pointing things out to them and asking questions, they stopped working on it and the service manager asked me to leave. It was my opinion that those idiots at this Ford dealership really didn't know how to corrently set the backlash which led to the rapid failures of the rear end, but they told me I didn't know what I was talking about and said that we were abusing the vehicle and wouldn't fix it anymore after they finished the 4th rear end. After it failed again, we went to another dealership and I asked to be present during the repair which they agreed to. The had their rear end specialist look things over and he detirmined the previous dealer must not have been setting the backlash corrently. They built the rear end again with new cones, clutches, ring, pinion, etc, and we haven't had a problem for the last 30,000 miles since this was done.
I hope none of you ever go through this kind of crud, but it will give you something to think about when considering the purchase of an extended warranty. The only other thing I'd like to say is that some friends of ours used Warranty Gold and were very pleased with the way their claims were handled.

Look into this. I bought a ex. warrantee for my wife's van through our automobile insurance company. In calif., most of the larger insurance companies offer an extended warrantee for vehicles they insure. It has worked great for me and cost very little.
I just bought a 60k, 6yr Ford ESP Premium extended warranty for my wife's 98 Mustang. The best price that I could get in south Florida was $1575.00. I ordered it over the net from one of our sponsors, sunrisefordfleet.com. I talked to Bobby Williams and got it for $790.00. Go to their web site, and just use the chart to figure the price out. It's the same product no matter what Ford dealership you buy it from. I recommend the Ford ESP, because I had it on my last 5 vehicles, and I've never had a problem at any Ford dealer.
I have the Warranty Gold extended plan on my Expedition and will likely get it for the new X. I've had several items repaired under the extended warranty and never once had any arguments.

I have to also give a thumbs up to WarrantyGold. I had it on my last 2 vehicles and they cover alot and dealerships like working with them. I would have gotten the warranty through them if my credit union didn't offer it, but the CU also gave me a lower rate because of it.
