Extra fuel tank...

Is there any reason why I couldn't add something like this tank to a 2002 2WD Excursion? I'm trying to figure out how to tank both the diesel and the WVO for a conversion. Given the amount of mileage I drive being able to go to WVO is part of the equation that allows acquiring one of these beasts to make sense.

Re: Extra fuel tank...

There have been severla thread on tanks. One just recently.

As for that one, the fact that they say it's a 19 gallon OEM would make me nervous. 19 gallons? Either way, it's cheap (could there be a reason?) but how would it be mounted??

Re: Extra fuel tank...

I'll try to do a better job searching for those threads then.

The price doesn't concern me. The tank is a 'take off'. They are removing them off new or newer trucks when they convert them to tow trucks adding a much larger fuel tank. My hope is it'll mate up to the frame rail on the X just like it mates up to the frame on an F-250/550 truck. My bigger concern is how I can route the filler neck.

While I'd like more than 19 gallons if I convert to WVO and use the main tank that 19 gallons is really just fuel to get the motor up to temperature before switching to WVO. I'll maintain the full aft axle tank converting it for use with the WVO.

Re: Extra fuel tank...

I spoke with that guy a couple months ago. Apparently he gets a lot of those tanks in the course of his business (converting wreckers). I was all set to buy one - and he was all set to ship it - but then he did a bit more homework and realized it wouldn't fit the Ex (or at least he couldn't be sure that it would fit the Ex). So we called the deal off just a few hourse before it was due to ship. Honest guy for doing that since we already agreed that if I had to return it for whatever reason the return shipping was on me, and it was >$100 for shipping to me from NY IIRC.

Check out Greasel's tank. I just had one put into my excursion. I had a local guy install it but it looks like a pretty easy install actually. Also it looks like a pretty solid tank. I haven't finished my conversion yet so I haven't put any VO yet (any day now....).

Re: Extra fuel tank...

Hope your Greasel stuff works out for you. I don't much care for their stuff, and I sure as heck am not putting it on a $25K truck. Guess I, or my installer, is going to have to come up with something different. Got to say I sure am tempted to order one up and see if we can make it work.
