Is this a fair deal for a 2001...

Hello all. I am contemplating picking up a 2001 Excursion Limited w/ the PSD. The truck is in excellent condition inside and out, no dings, damage, the paint is fine, and interior is in good condition. The car has 34k miles, is white, and is 2 whell drive. The car is listed at 34k, I offered 30k and they returned with 30k + fees.

Here are my questions:

1. Based on what KBB and Edmunds says this is a steal, is this a fair deal, current owners know the market best.

2. Is the 4X2 sufficient for snow with a truck this big?? I have never ovned something this big so living is VA where it snows a fair amount, should this really concery me??

Thanks for you help.

Robert

Robert, if it was a 4X4 it might be a deal. With the difference in interest rates between new and used cars, you probably won't pay any more for a new one. I think that a low mile '01 4X4 is worth about 30K. Just my opinion.

wow they want a buck a mile .....huh
I have a 2001 and and just turned 13K, they must have drivin the crap outa that thing. I do agree with the above post though, besides I have had my share of the used ones and will never do that again. I would rather pay more for new, take advantage of the % rates.

Robert, I got my 2002 ulitmate 4*4 for 40k, the interest rates are cheaper and you have a 36k bumper to bumper warranty. Me I would go for new plus in the snow I really like 4 wheel drive as I used to live up north. plus every truck that I bought with 4 wheel drive got me a higher resale and I got back what I paid for the 4 wheel drive

Re: Is this a fair deal for a 2001...

Although I've driven through some bad snow/ice in 2WD and have the so-called "limited slip", moving from a standstill in snow spins the rears easily. Kind of gives you the feeling that the truck is front-heavy, and needs 4WD.

Judging from the window stickers I've seen, how in the "h e double toothpicks" did you get a 4x4 ultimate for 40K??? Or are you imbellishing the deal??
When I bought my 01 Limited, it stickered for 47K+ and even with the A plan, I ended up at 38.

Re: Is this a fair deal for a 2001...

Dave, that price was courtesy of my dealer, after many problems with my 2000 excursion, I got a call from FORD customer service telling me that I might be better off filing under Florida's lemon law. Well I started to pray and ask God why would Ford be so kind to me, well after about an hour I got a call from my dealer asking me about the phone call from Ford and had I spoke to a lawyer yet? He said that the dealer ship would prefer that I look at their offer first, so I had one of my freinds drive me up there and look at new X's. when I saw the all black ultimate I said yes. My saleman JT Sanders ran off in the gulf cart and came back with the keys and said here you go take it home and tell me how you like it. Boy I never thought I would like a black truck in south west Florida but I do.
Sam Galloway Ford came back with a nice offer, $3500.00 equity in my trade, dealer cost plus half the hold back on the new one and the found a bank that would match the Ford low interest and I got the rebates from Ford for not taking the low finance from Ford. Plus I had I nice system in my truck and Sam Galloway gave me 10 days with my old truck to get everything out. It was a real blessing to get rid of a true lemon
