FDNY Goes to Excursions

I was reading this week that FDNY will buy replacing their Suburbans with Excursions because the Suburban is no longer available with a diesel.

Also, Ford has donated 10 of trhese bauties to help replace some of the vehicles lost on September 11.

I can't wait to visit NY and see one of these Excursions strokin' down 5th Ave heading for a call.

Just thought you maight want to know.

Happy miles!

Marc

Re: FDNY Goes to Excursions

A couple of police departments here in NJ are buying them through state grand programs. My PD has yet to buy one, but the town next to us has had one for about 8 months. It's a basic Excursion with a V-10, but it is a 4x4. The guys don't like them that much because of their poor handling characteristics, but I've given their maintance guy some of my ideas that I've gotten from this site.

Re: FDNY Goes to Excursions

I can't help but think that a X would be a little bit interesting to get through some of the tighter streets in NYC when the driver is in a rush. The big vehicle-intimidation factor is there though, so maybe some of the yahoos on the road might clear out and make enough room to horse a X around.

MTFLYFISHER,

I was out in Great Falls last February.

Beautiful country. I just wish I could have stayed longer and done more sightseeing.

Can you send me some Moose Drool Ale?

Re: FDNY Goes to Excursions

I can tell you from experience it doesn't matter how big or small the emergency vehicle is that you are driving, people still don't get out of your way. I do applaud NYFD management for having some brains and getting something they can actually use. We got gutless Expeditions for our chiefs here, and they all hate them because they are too small.
