Finished The Inverter Wiring

We use an inverter a good bit and when I got the new truck the guys in the shop got me a 750 watt inverter for Christmas of 05. I had it wired up with a dual feed from the right rear and left center power point providing plenty of power when the truck was off, up to 400 watts. But I had wanted to give it a real power feed for when I needed it. So with a surge of 1500 watts (I would not even try that) it comes out way over 100 Amps. I went with a #6 marine grade battery cable, very flexible ( expensive to ) # 6 is good for 80 amps all day long and can handle a surge of 150 no problem. So at 80 amps and 12 volts I have 960 watts. Could have used #8 but the thought of hot wires under the carpet just didn’t sound good.

I used the 10 amp customer access wire under the dash that is only hot in run to turn on the relay under the hood to feed the #6 wire. The power points are fused at 20 amps each. You do not want to back feed that #14 wire with the 120 amps that the #6 is fused at so I used a full wave bridge that we stock at the shop but Radio Shack should have a 30 AMP Full wave bridge or you could do it with two 30 diodes since that is all you are using in the bridge.

The diagram looks like this:

</pre><hr />
The diodes in the bridge prevent any electrical back feeds, power can only go one way, to the inverter.

I had put a little thought and time into this so I thought I would share.
And yes the picts are posted
