Firestone Steeltex A/T

A friend of mine just bought a F-250 P/U. He told me today at linch that there was a warranty or recal on the tires. Does anyone know of this and if it pertains to a 2000 Excursion?

Re: Firestone Steeltex A/T

Pmichael: There is a warr. on the SteelTex as all new tires. But so far no call back, starting to look like there is not going to be one. There has been problems but the failure rate is't bad enough. All tires fail. There is a kazillion SteelTex truck tires running around out there compared to, say Cooper, Michlin,@ Toyo's. I would like to see a graph comparison, say how many tires fail per 10k tires from each company. You are going to hear nothing good about SteelTex but if you have 300k SteelTex out there aginst 50k tires of another brand. You will have more complaints on the Steeltex. Example: Rolls is a great car, Fords are bad, never seen a Rolls being towed. If they do have a call back, I'll dump them in a heart beat, I have no love for any Firestone tires. 10k mi. no probs. cliffsurfs

Re: Firestone Steeltex A/T

Yesterday I was nearly ran off the road by a F-250 SD that blew the right front steel tex. This sucker exploded sending the truck across two lanes. I stopped and after the driver settled down he told me the truck had 15K and had never hauled anything heavy and kept his tire pressure at book spec, I think he said 50 or 55 psig. He never felt anything until it blew. Totaled the rim also. I know I won't own another firestone of anykind.

Re: Firestone Steeltex A/T

Folks Firebombs suck period.

They run hotter than other manufactures tires + other things.

The link towards the end of the thread is put together by NHTSA and Ford it has a viedo and explains a lot of details . The other links are of experiences of members from this site. I would have got them from here , but have you tried to use the searc system, a real bummer. Almost as bad as the Firebombs.

A side note if you will search on General tires thaey are having problems to . Are forming ballonss on the sidewalls both inside and outside. If you have Generals keep a watch on them to.
