Firestone Steeltex tires have 83K on them, What can beat that?

I have an 2001 X 4x4 Limited that I drive 110 miles a day to work. I never tow and drive probably 90% of my miles are highway. I have 83K on the Firestones now and can probably get 90-95K out of them before the tread bar is exposed! I probably should stay with the Firestones but what else should I look into? I need tire life!!!! Thanks!

Michelin LTX M/S will give long life. All Michelins do.

They will also ride better, corner better, handle wet weather better, brake better and not run about a 25% chance of blowing out at 70 mph.

If all you care about is long tire life, buy another set of Steeltex's. They seem to work well for you.

Re: Firestone Steeltex tires have 83K on them, What can beat that?

I was at that point when I took mine off, in January. I did not want to go thru another winter with them, and when my Bridgestones finally came in, they went on. I had no blowouts with my original Steeltex AT LT265/75R16D, but one did get a bulge in the sidewall at around 37k, so it got downgraded to ride inside as a spare.

These Bridgestones are wearing very nicely.

My Firestones gave out at 90,500 miles without even a flat. I just replace them with Nitto's 295/75/16s.

I traded my 2000 with the original Steeltex AT's in for a 2003 with BFG E rated Rugged Trail T/A's but only had about 32K on it.

I got 135K on the original stones on my 91 Explorer. The problems were 1)They shook the whole time. 2)They refused to wear out. and 3)One of them suddenly lost air through the sidewall.
