Ok group, We will take reciept of the X tomorrow afternoon, and it will have the trailer brake already installed. We tow a 32" TT that weighs in at about 8000 loaded ready to go. For all the trailer toting X owners, what would be your very first mod, thinking back to all the mods that I have read about here at TDS.
I see some say bags, others say springs, others say the torsion bar and sway bars...
I do not plan to "Lift" the X, but if I need to get better springs so that it will handle the TT at least as well as my old tow vehicle (1994 K2500 4x4 454 stock). As always your inputs are valued.
Thanks again, Garry K in Port Orchard, WA

Exhaust system was mine. Although if I were to start over, I would put one of those Air-Lift systems on to help with the sagging of a trailer. Then I'd do the exhaust.

A second vote for Radius Rods. You may not be able to make them your first mod - since they are built to order - but you should get them ordered pronto. If something were to happen to my 'X" and I had to buy another, I'd be ordering Radius Rods before I used up the first tank of fuel.

In my opinion, the first modification should be a very good grille guard. I have the "Big Tex" from Go Industries on our 05. It makes the truck look nice and in a wreck, it will reduce the amount of front-end damage. …Of which I can attest! I feel the one we had on our 02, had a good role of allowing us to walk away from the wreck. The second mod should be the hood blanket. It will make the truck a little quieter and will take away a lot of the “tinny” sound the engine has as well as (IMHO) make the hood last longer. They say the heat from the engine will not affect the hood but the first winter you will see how much heat is actually being absorbed by the hood (the snow will melt off before you can get out of the driveway). Just do a search for the hood blanket parts but you need to reduce the number of plastic screws by half if you are installing the front upper and lower radiator seals. The 04 blanket for the V10 gasser fits perfect and is a 5 min install. If you also install the hood light, you just need to wire it into an “always on” power source as it has an internal switch.
If your going to eventually do power and performance upgrades. I would get guages first. That way you can see what your getting from all your mods as you do them. Second would be Intake and Exhaust. Then go from there.
Exhaust was done on mine before the first payment. I also agree with doing radius rods ASAP. Mine is lifted way up so it requires traction bars. Without decent sway control, the excursion is a nightmare. My wife spun ours out last year towing our 30' trailer because of it. I looked at the accident pictures the other day and puckered right up again.
