Re: First "real" tow with my X

My modified intake opening has been like that going on two years come this Sep and haven't had one sign of any water back where the 90 degree bend is at the air filter,so I'd say nope no water ingestion even with the intake as extreme as ours

Re: First "real" tow with my X

What about a few 1/2" holes instead of one big one. I would think any size opening would be better than nothing, I was thinking a few small ones..

I'm sure 3 2" holes would be sufficient for the average owner,I just tend to go for the maximum

Re: First "real" tow with my X

Thanks, I am going to look into this this evening. I have a nice 1" hole saw that could make short work of this, I may even use a screen of some sort to help keep mice and other crud out. I have had mice in my hood liner before. Those little creeps can squeeze in anything. I don't even live in the woods and keep the garage very clean and closed tight.

Re: First "real" tow with my X

Damn, I had no idea so many OSO'ers were here. I have been on OSO since Oct 2000. I still go there almost every day but mostly lurking. It's not quite as good as it used to be imo.

VC
My previous Excursion was a 2001. I pulled my boat which weighs 9400 lbs on the trailer w/gas to Lake Mead in 105 deg heat up and down grades @ 60 mph and got 11 mpg average every time. Is the speed limit for towing 70 in your state? I had the SCMT 1700 my X. With gauges and an exhaust on the 60 hp tow safe setting, egt's were never a problem and it towed like a dream. Never had any tranny problems either. The SCMT is very mild. I can't remember reading of tranny problems with the SCMT. A mild programmer or chip will make a huge difference. Some chips will make your tranny shift better.

Re: First "real" tow with my X

skygod,
I have to recheck, but I think the technically legal towing speed here on the interstates and turnpike is 65, but again I would need to recheck. The regular speed limit is 70, and most everyone towing with full size trucks and semi's are going close to the 70, and in some cases with the semi's even faster. What is the scmt, or what brand I guess is what asking as I assume scmt is a programmer.
Thanks.

Re: First "real" tow with my X

MotionMan,
I have not called your guy at Western yet, but interestingly I read on one of the aftermarket forums here that Western Diesel has closed up shop.
Also, has anyone tried the Diablo Predator on an Excursion and not had the christmas light problems? It seems like a nice unit and I can get it for good price at my local diesel shop. I liked that you can monitor live engine and tranny parameters while you are on the go.
Thanks,
vc

Re: First "real" tow with my X

Here in MN, the interstate limit is 70mph and there are no lower limits if your towing, driving an RV, etc like you see in so many eastern states. Just one speed limit for everyone.

In cali the speed limit is 70 in many places but the towing speed limit is still 55 I tow at 60-65, any more than that and it's not easy to panic stop 9,000 lbs of trailer. You'll get run over at 55 though. SCMT= Super Chips Micro Tuner

Re: First "real" tow with my X

I talked to a local shop a couple of weeks ago called Dieselwerks that is just south of St. Louis, MO and he said that Western Diesel had filed Chapter 11. He was a distributor for them and said he could no longer get their products...he was starting to shop some other places!
