flo-pro 4" exhaust, very loud

I have installed a 4" flo-pro exhaust thsi weekend and the sound of the turbo is incredibly lous, to the point I do not want to drive it. Has anyone installed this exhaust and encountered the same? the model I installed is 817. This is a turboback system.

If you have encountered this, were you able to overcome this noise and how?

Thank you
Ronald

Installed on what?

BTW, you need to post this in Aftermarket for whichever engine you have.

BTW2, if it's a 6.0, especially a 2003, and the system eliminates the CAT, that's the problem The CAT killsmost of the obnoxious turbo whistle, and I say annoying only because it's waaaayyyyyyy too loud. I had my CAT welded back in and it sounds good!

I just put the XL system on my X a few weeks ago it is loud when cold but normal driving I can not tell the difference.

I like what I am seeing MPG wise but have thought about putting the cat back on.

Looks like it could be welded in a 4" pipe without going back down to the
3-1/2" just cut it on the taper and tig together.

Not sure how much restriction this would add back but it does not seem like it would be much.

What did adding the cat back do for you? Good and Bad?

You know, as much as I want the power of a 4" turbo back I am affraid of the noise. The turbo and exhaust resonaite inside these where-as a pick up is open and the exhaust sound is not so bad, the turbo would be the same I assume. I know this is the next step in performance and I do have to do it, I just have to have the same dbs or maybe a little more but not a vibrating box.

Re: flo-pro 4" exhaust, very loud

Bruce,

I had the CAT welded in when the system was installed. And you're right, they cut it at 4" and welded it to the 4" pipe. It's not perfect, but the alt. was no CAT and I wasn't ready for that. I've been curious what it would sound like, but Magnaflow won't sell any parts to the system anymore so I can replace that section of pipe to test it. I may take out the muffler to see what's that's like. Most reports are that it won't sound any different, until I get on it. Who knows....

MM,

Mine sounds pretty good, better with some miles on it, but unless you know it has aftermarket exhaust, you wouldn't know it. I cna't even hear anything from the inside, but from the outside I was surprised how it sounded.

Re: flo-pro 4" exhaust, very loud

MBRP makes a muffler and resonator that will fit the 4" you have now and they could knock down some of the annoying drone or noise that you have. The resonators are like small mufflers and could be the direction you might want to look at first. Just a thought!

Re: flo-pro 4" exhaust, very loud

Ronald007,

All theirs have a NO Packing muffler, basically just a hollow core can, that's what's making it so loud. Get yourself a good muffler like an MBRP that's packed with a ceramic blanket and stainless steel wool and you'll be OK. Call us if you have any questions etc.

Hi mark,
I received the MRBP resonator and glass packed muffler from your store. It looks like I have no pulling power with the muffler on. When I take it back off, it seems fine. Am I having too much back pressure?

Re: flo-pro 4" exhaust, very loud

Ronald007,

The resonator or a muffler that has a 4 inch straight thru core will not make enough back pressure to change any operation of the engine.
You've got some other issue going on becides the resonator.
