I got my muffler installed yesterday and it rocks!! I used a series 40, 3.5" in and out, straight through, Flowmaster racing muffler. I felt that the stock tailpipe had the best design for airflow. If you look at it, it has very smooth cornering, with no crimps at the bends. Keeping a consistent diameter. You can definitely feel the difference. Especially above 70 mph. It has a very nice low rumbling sound to it. But it sounds pretty wicked when you floor it and put the turbo to work!! I would recommend it over the Dynomax because of its' heavy construction. The Dynomax is made of tin basically. Though it may perform well. I actually ordered the banks muffler. Then I realized how silly it was to spend 500 bucks on it. So I researched the flowmaster and am pretty happy with it. Hope this helps. SEE YA

I read something during research into a Banks system for my V10, that on the PSD systems, Banks leaves in place the stock muffler.
It said that their philosophy is to not make any changes that don't benefit performance, also, that the stock muffler for the newer PSD's flows very well.

I just put the Walker big truck muffler on today $45 at advanced auto. Just cut and weld, its a little longer than the stock but it is straight through and does not hang down as far. I changed it because the vans have a 3.5" pipe with a 3" muffler, go figure. I wonder if the X's have the same. It is a little louder, unless you put your foot in it. If you don't want to hear the turbo, DON'T do it, but I think it sounds cool.

I received the DynoMax 17224 today from Summit Racing. I also ordered from them a 4' section of 3.5" exhaust tubing (part SUM-640035) for about $20 including $5 oversized shipping surcharge. The total for muffler, pipe and shipping $96.89.
A quick question for those of you that have this setup - will the short section of tubing that is added need to be bent? The muffler shop I use does not have the tools necessary to bend 3.5" tubing.
It looks like it may be 10 days or so before I can have it put on, but looking forward to the benefits of more power and lower EGTs.
No bending of the short piece is necessary. You will need a 3 1/2" adapter to connect unless you plan to TIG weld a butt joint. Enjoy, and see if you can keep your foot off the go pedal. The power and turbo whine is addictive. If you don't own a radar detector, I would recommend it. Has saved my hide many times (although not in Tennessee a couple of weeks ago- dang, that copper was good.)

I had a local muffler shop install the Dynomax today! They did the install basically the same as Bjornar noted in his post, thus no need for the extra 4' of pipe I purchased from Summit (the owner of the muffler shop agreed to keep the pipe on hand in case another customer needs it for an install - sell it for me - better than taking up space in my garage!).
I love the sound and better yet, I took my wife for a test run and NO complaints! I already have the PPIII and did not get to drive it enough to see if I could detect an increase in power. Hopefully I will see an improvement in power/mpg, but I will be satisfied knowing the EGTs are lower when towing.
