Ford is about to buy back my 2001 X....any reason to wait on buying a 2005

Do you think the engine and tranny issues are worked through enough? If so what build date should I start with?

Depreciation!!

Unless you get a really good deal on a 04 I would wait for the 05.

Why are they buying back your 01 this late in the game?

Its a long story. I am on my fourth tranny. I went through the Dispute Settlement process (a waste of a time). Then I got a lawyer and finally am at the end of the road.

I'm still wondering why "wait for a 2005"? They are on the lots and I'd guess 2004's are very hard to find left over. Or am I missing something (again)?

My point is, is there a new rev of a motor or tranny coming out any time soon. If so I could wait for something better.

If I had 4 trannies in a vehicle the last thing I would want is another one. That said I have a 04 with 13,000 and no problems at all and I am very happy with it. I swaped the shocks and sway bars.

You are right the next vehicle he buys shouldn't have a transmission so he won't worry about breaking it!

Remember he would be moving to an entirely different drivetrain from the 7.3 and 4r100 that has had trouble with and upgrade to a 6.0 and a torqshift. If I were him I would just get the best deal he can find on an 05 X and don't worry.

I was very happy with mine till the tranny first went out at 18k miles. You are correct, I am banking on the new tranny addressing my troubles. I tow a 10,000 boat and reverse up the driveway would crush it. Finaly started putting it in 4 wheel low to back up and that has kept this one together for the last 14k miles.

Try to find an '04 that is $3,500 cheaper than an '05...and then go get a BTS tranny!!!!

I had the same bad results with a suburban in N.Y.,what a joke here as well.I ended up trading it in for the X.It wasn't worth hiring a shark since Ford gave me a great trade price,$4,000 higher than G.M..I wonder why? Do you think they saw the bad history on the truck and said "we are not going to take that piece of crap in on a trade, give him ziltch on a trade".

Re: Ford is about to buy back my 2001 X....any reason to wait on buying a 2005

I don't know if Brian is doing a Torqshift rebuild yet, but I'm sure he would fully replace a Torqshift tranny with one of his own with the "trade-in" (of course, you'd still have to pay the $3,500 or whatever he would charge).

Heck, SELL that torqshift yourself since it will be new and then pay the extra $500-$1000 for the tranny core. Either way, sounds like a good plan to me!

Just trying to think "OUTSIDE THE BOX."
